Hello lad and lassies,

I am new to the forum but have fished for most of my adult life (more on that if you request it). Mostly I have been fly rodding in California and Texas but my elbows have started giving me problems (and I don't even play tennis) so my focus now is on more traditional tackle. I have seen YouTube videos and am aghast at how much has changed since I last did bass fishing. Never heard of a whacky rig or a shaky head. Rods are now 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 feet, braided line looks like the standard along with fluorocarbon leaders. Is there a place on the forums for oldy but newbies to catch up on the new stuff?

I live in the Austin, Texas area, have no boat except a pontoon boat so I will probably be a bank fisher. Looking forward to how y'all respond.

Welcome to the TFF... Hope you enjoy the ride, don't worry so much about what has changed as fishing is fishing.. Not much has change except lots of drama and more folks fishing now than in the past..

When I pass on I want to go like my grandpa, in my sleep.. Not like the screaming folks in the car with him..

If you’re rich, bass can be arranged. Haha.

I joke…not sure a person could even begin to explain the changes, but what you used 20 years ago will still work just fine. Hopefully you’re not just trolling us.

Welcome to the board man. There are some good folks here in between all the keyboard warriors. Don’t be afraid to PM folks. Most will help out when they can if not in the thread but in PM’s.

Pontoon > bank fishing. Mount a trolling motor and graph on it and go fish

Welcome to the insanity. One thing to note, you're going to need thick skin around these parts. Not everyone is going to be chummy, not everyone is going to provide you with answers you may like, but it is the internet so take that into consideration.

Welcome. Austin is cool, but it used to be so much cooler back in the 70's when I was there. Texas is great. So much better than Oklahoma! smile
