Anytime there is a northern front that blows in the fish stop biting. I understand it is a change ini pressure that makes them stop biting, because the pressure puts pressure on their swim bladder which puts pressure on their stomach. What I don't understand is why they just don't move a foot or two up in the water column to alieve the pressure? The change in pressure outside is very little, so it could easily be compensated for simply by changing the water depth they are swimming at. Am I wrong?

I come from the water.

I believe it's something to do with the thermocline and the temperature and oxygen content of such.

Learned behavior, imagine all fish, including bait fish get alot less active when the pressure drops or rises, also usually associated with a temperature change. There is also sunshine post front normally that will make them less likely to go shallower. They are also not as smart as most people. But they will still eat in these conditions, just gotta get the bait alot closer to them.

IMO, When the water is falling they suspend and get real inactive.... Baro changes seem to make them do the same, or they bury in thickest cover u can find.

Course catching them when its actively changing can be very good.

One thing I learned from my both my Grandpa's...Barometer has a great deal of benefit if you can learn it. Wildlife, fish, and people all rely on the barometric pressure.

Drastic swings = bad weather, which makes everything seek shelter
Steady pressure = calm / neutral weather patterns which means things are even keel
High pressure = Like 30's; was best time to go and fish / hunt
Low pressure = Like 29; You would be searching for things in deep cover. but they are there and could be bigguns
