Been out a couple of days now and having some tough days. What am I doing wrong, have been catching several, up to 12 per brush pile. Last couple of trips same BP's producing 1 maybe 2 fish. Why? Nothing has changed. I don't try to catch every fish on every BP, I like to leave some for the next trip when ever! Thanks

Is the lake you're fishing releasing water?

That's pretty normal for me this time of year everywhere I go. I get 2-5 fish a spot and have to move. A lot of times its 1-2 per spot too

What size bait are you using? I use 1/16 and 1/8 with 2 inch jig bodies.

What size bait are you using? I use 1/16 and 1/8 with 2 inch jig bodies. Downsize that to a 1/16 jig head with a #6 hook and a 1ā or 1 1/4ā bait. Your bait is too big for this time of year.

Iām using 1/16oz hand ties on piles right now and still only catch a couple and move on!! Warm water equals sluggish fish!!

I usually use a 2 inch bait from Crazy Angler or Bonehead. I prepped some baits before my last trip, cut 1/4 inch off the head and trimmed the tails back also. Went with a 1/16 oz head instead of my usual 1/4. They worked well , although I caught some fish on the full sized baits also.

Water is getting hot and fish are lethargic.

I'd be using a small jig tipped with a minnow this time of year.

I'd be using a small jig tipped with a minnow this time of year. Side Note: Look for heavily shaded areas as well. 10 to 15 feet of water!

Went with a 1/16 oz head instead of my usual 1/4. They worked well , although I caught some fish on the full sized baits also. Mo 1/4 oz jig is one mighty heavy jig for pannies - especially crappie! My heaviest ballhead is a bit over 1/16 oz., #6 or #4 hook for most soft plastics. 1/24 oz for slower retrieves. When fish aren't into chasing lures, I use plastics that have no action tail. The lure bobbles back and forth and stays in the strike zone longer. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/06/full-4706-230883-hexnsvw.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/06/full-4706-230884-img_2763.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/06/full-4706-230885-club_tail_perch_2.jpg) Of course I always take along some Crappie Magnet grubs which also has minimal action it the tails.

Brought home fifteen today for a July 4th fish fry. All fish were caught near docks or in brush in water 10 to 12 feet deep. Caught them on jigs. Water temperature was near 90 degrees. Boy, was it HOT! ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-5848-231007-img_1570.jpeg) ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/07/full-5848-231008-img_1571.jpeg) JR
