I came into Rainswood to load up just about the time the Ambulance crew was getting out on the pier, they loaded up a lady and she was conscious and talking.

Its very possible someone had a heat related illness or stroke. Its that time of year when people that arent acclimated to the heat get out on the water and it sneaks up on them quick.

This was my thought. The number of people out there in the heat, many 4 days in a row.
This summer has hit me harder than the last couple. Hopefully this has me over the acclimation hurdle. Just got to remember to HYDRATE!

The heat was pretty tough I drank three bottles of water and a bottle of Gatorade and when I left I stopped at Axton's and got another bottle of Gatorade for the trip home.
The ambulance call could have been heat stress or even a spinal injury given the beating I took as well as others. I kept my bug trimmed down and that helped a lot but the trade off is every once in a while I'd get a splash of water in the face.

Me and a buddy were diehard at one time and it was daylight to dark 3 weekends a month no matter the weather. One summer we got to trying to make sure we took care of ourselves in the heat. We would take watermelon, a whole case of water in a cooler, gatorade, fruits, etc. No joke, one day we loaded a whole case of water in a cooler with a few things of fruit or snacks and by the afternoon we had went thru all but a bottle or two and it wasnt super late. Coincidentally those were the days we didnt have the heat headaches or just totally wore down when we got in the truck. The heat and humidity on the lake takes way more out of than you think and it takes a lot to replinish that. Ive had some times where im fishing and i just snap out of it and say "man your to hot, take a break and get some water or take a ride and cool off". Sometimes we dont realize its as bad as it is

You gotta start with the hydration well before the day ir days outside. Start a few days prior. If you wait till the day of you will never catch up. If you are getting headaches then chances are high yiu were not hydrated enough when yiu started.

If it is 95+ degrees we usually will go through an entire 24 pack of water, two 32-ounce gatorades a piece, and a large jar of pickle juice. Dehydration ain't no joke.

I ran across a man on Grapevine last year, his big motor wasn't working and he was about 4 miles from the nearest ramp. He was having a heat stroke, and not thinking. He was on the phone with 911, and spinning his boat in figure 8's trying to get some wind across his body. Day was over 100, and absolutely no wind. Someone said that was a god wink, as I really shouldn't have been up on that end of the lake. He was wearing a dark tank top, and shorts. He waved me over, and I got him in the boat and immediately started pouring lake water over him to cool him off. I took him and met the fire deptartment boat as it was heading our way, and they took over. They had to go tow his boat back from the upper end back to the ramp. It's no joke.. I wear long sleeve light color quick dry shirts with a hood, and I keep it wet. I used to wear shorts only, but I found some really nice quick dry pants that I love. There is no way you can go out without the right gear in these 100+ days and fish all day. Once you have a heat stroke, you are done. You can never take the heat like you did before having one of these events. He turned out to be fine, and all was well. Some people don't like to be wet, but it feels so good to me and I stay cool. I average about 1.5 gallons of liquid, and try to drink the first gallon with electrolytes, or powdered gatorade. I have heard many people who use the pickle juice, and that makes sense. If you buy a quick dry shirt make sure you get two to three sizes up because you want it loose fitting. Sticky and tight to your body is uncomfortable. I am a XL, and I wear 2XL & 3XL.

If all you drink is water, you can flush out all your electrolytes and minerals, not good. Be sure to add electrolytes .

Hydration the day or two before is a start. Drinking on the water is good, too. But don't forget to hydrate after you are done for recovery!

Has to do with age as well(having trouble accepting myself) Need to drink BEFORE one gets thristy, otherwise it's too late. That as drilled into my brain(when I had one LOL) Ran several marathons, triathlons etc.

Your body sweats the electrolytes and minerals. No need to “replace” them BEFORE you go out….you’ll just pee a lot of minerals out before your body even needs them. Plain water is best. About 16 oz per hour. Then, when done, you can drink the sugar and salt drinks.
That’s according to my doctor. So….dont run me over if I’m wrong.
