Hey TFF,

I have a family trip to Lake Tawakoni mid June. It will be my first time on the lake. I already have plans to purchase Tom’s boat trails, but I wanted to know if anyone wouldn’t mind pointing me in the right direction so I can get my father in law and brother in law on some fish?

We will be staying at a house with a dock on the north side of the Kitsee inlet.

Any info helps, or guidance! Thanks fellas!

That time of year, I would be throwing a jerkbait around the deeper floating docks and dragging a c-rig through the rocks around the pump station.

South side of Kitsee, Hawk cove, and most of Waco bay are all good fishing year round. Lived here and grew up on this lake. Be careful. I still find timber that I did not know about and the main lake can get rough with a light south wind. The areas I listed are not too affected by wind and pretty safe. Kitsee is very stumpy and full of timber on north side.

The main thing is to pay attention to the wind, especially if it is out of the south, a 10 to 15 mph south wind can whip this lake into a frenzy like most lakes respond to a 20 to 30 mph wind. It's pretty calm in the bays and coves off the main lake and there are ramps where you can avoid the main lake and find fishable water. I've been on it three times and noticed most of the locals run bay or small offshore boats, it didn't take me long to understand why.

I agree, I fish it a lot and the wind can make some pretty big rollers.

When you say fish, do you mean largemouth or just good numbers of eating fish?

Sandies and Stripers can be found a mile or two from the south side of the dam. Just look for all the boats fishing for them.
There are catfish all over the lake. Its one of the very few lakes that I can consistently catch catfish at with cranks and spinnerbaits. Use regular catfish bait and you can slay them.

Put in at State Park and turn the left (north). That is Waco Bay, every creek or "cove" in Waco Bay hold bass. Mustang, Ash, Hawk, Duck and Walnut have always been on my milk run on that end of the lake.

Tawakoni typically fishes pretty shallow. Frog, swim jig, swim baits, jig, wacky worm, sq bill cb and a Tx rig. Maybe throw in a spinenr bait or chatter bait as well. Tawakoni colors on hard baits shad color, chart / black and coach dog. On soft baits and jigs, black/blue, green pumpkin and Cali-420 all work well.

Fish the "tawakoni weeds" (green shoreline cover that grows everywhere on the lake), lilly pads and boat docks.

Good Luck!

There's you some great info there. If you are looking to try to catch good quality fish have a Jig ready for when you come to any rocky area's and sometimes that produces some good quality bites.
