My son and I are overnighting at Flat creek marina and campground on Saturday, probably gonna rent a couple of Kayaks. Was wondering if anybody had been on the water here lately and what’s been workin. Seems like a good solid shad base for color selection. We plan on doing some night fishing as well for bass and cats if the bass do t wanna play. Any tips would be appreciated. Also if anybody’s in that area and maybe has an open back deck we could spring for gas. Either way thanks! Hope to hear from y’all -Joe

Flat creek is as good of a place to fish as any on that lake.

lol thanks 4weight…yeah I dont think the chip is gonna help me much in a yak lol. And as far as “that lake”, I’m happy to get outta DFW for a weekend so I’m not dodging needles and diapers and gunshots at any given ramp. Just sayin

If I was yaking around I would go to Ledbetter and stay there.

I thought about that looking at the maps to be honest. Ledbetter looked nice and didnt look too far away. But I don’t think both yaks will fit in the bed of the truck and that’s a big paddle for a fat dude like me lol

With the tornados they had out there, you might want to steer clear of Ledbetter unless you launch on the opposite side of the lake and paddle in.

Dock fishing on Palestine this time of year is excellent. Pick up a jig and a shaky head and go to work. Lots of docks around Flat Creek

Don't kid yourself here, the Flatcreek boat ramp off 315 has plenty of needles and broken windshield glass in it. Stay clear of here even in the daylight. Add Kickapoo boat ramp to it. Just FYI!

My son and I have fished it and had a good time. Caught lots of fish nothing of real size. Started at the ramp and fished the entire southwest shoreline to the creek. Did good on jerkbait, lipless crankbait, buzzbait, spinnerbait, craws and worms. Have fun.

I used to fish the area below when I kayaked Flat Creek.. best place to get out of the wind... probably take you a half hour of so to paddle there if you dont stop to fish.. Havent been there in a year or two as that ramp was usually one of the busiest and I would normally fish Kickapoo where there were places I could get away from most power boats. At the lake levels we are at now, it will look totally different but plenty of vegetation, in years past. One of the most beautiful spots on the lake to me. If you dont have a graph just fish it all.. I used to spend the whole day there... then fish the bank all the way back.. good luck.
