I don't have a whole lot of money. This Sun Dolphin is rated at 500lbs, I am 250lbs. I will not have any electronics or motor. My main concern is not capsizing while fishing comfortably. The price is right for me too.

I saw the number 1 rule was to paddle as many as you can before I purchase.

The number 5 rule was to ask others what they have experienced.

Anyway this is the one I was looking into.

The more I read, the more I see that a yak is personal and for only you to decide....through demo's.

Thanks

Its the small details that matter most to me.. dont know anything about the sun-dolphin but if you have checked it out and like it, it fits your budget, and you can load and unload it.. go for it! cheers Falling out of the kayak will be the least of your worries after you have been in it a few times... hope you report back on your first trip out! cheers

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Buy used. You'll learn what you like, what you need, and whether you want to invest in a more substantial fishing platform. Rivers, lakes and seacoast all need different kinds of yaks. Good luck. The REAL number one is: Always wear your PFD! IslandJim

It's a decent yak. Like others said it's too what your needs are. I just sold my top water 106 for a pond prowler I had the yak for about 6 years. I want to take my dogs with me and can also use it for du k hunting. Kayaks are great just didn't fit my needs.

Sun Dolphin is a cheaply made product with very thin plastic. That was my personal experience when I was checking out kayaks and if you read the reviews you'll find the same comments. As suggested above, take a look at used kayaks.

Any kayak is better than no kayak. The worst of kayaks can give you experience that can benefit you. My very first boat was a wood frame plywood size flat bottom boat that was homemade. It wasn't perfect but it got the job done until I could get a canoe. Lots of people are gonna have an opinion. If it fits your budget, it will do great until you choose to get anything else you want down the road. Just enjoy it. Don't buy into the gimmick junk seems nowadays everyone is a "prostaff, sponsored or yotube expert" lol. Just get out there and have some fun.

Agreed on all fronts, especially with what Christain said ("any kayak is better than no kayak").

Ya gotta start somewhere... my first boat was a narrow jon boat (small river boat that I took on choppy lakes) with a 35lb trolling motor. That thing was tippy, but I made it work.

If you can find used, you might get a better platform at a similar price. If so, you won't take the "new boat" financial hit.

Im not sure if this one is still available, but if it is most cracks can be repaired. https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/15041157/hobie-outback#Post15041157

This sounds simple and logical. Thank you!
