More diameter for the light stuff. Easier to cast and more distance.

BFS is with bait casters not spinning reels

Sorry. My brain was mixed up. Trying to understand why guys would want to use light weight with a baitcaster.

It's like it's the only style of reel, you're supposed to use, for bass.

Just the latest fad. Only reason I have a setup is it was part of a package deal when I was buying a few other rods. Intended to sell it but its actually fun to play with on occasion

Not sure why we'd rule out BFS. My Curado BFS casts 1/8oz as far as you'd ever need to extremely consistently.

I use a Tatula Elite for light weight lures for bass. No need to use spinning gear except if you are throwing crappie jigs.

My catfish rigs are also for hybrid stripe. Slice of bait or a lure. Either fishing the bottom. Catfish.

Or slow floating a plastic bait. Into a hunter group of stripes.

I can still outcast you using spinning. Verses a baitcaster.

It's all in the tuning.

So I bought a JDM Shimano 22 Metanium Shallow Edition, gonna tune it, and see how good it will cast some lightweight lures.
