I was at WalMart and had eggs on my list. With the exception of a few cartons of over priced Egglands Best, some free range, and a couple of 6 packs of Great Value eggs it was empty. Bird flu?. I was also at Kroger but did not look at eggs.

I have seen various eggs there that I wouldn't want even if they were free.

Chickens are cheap to raise and easy. We live in town and have had them for a while. My son enjoys taking care of them and they are very little trouble. We have 6 and they lay an egg a day each. My son is turning 16 next month so we will get rid of them when he starts working and driving and will have to go back to buying overpriced less flavorful eggs.

If they are so cheap and easy why settle for inferior eggs?

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it !

FWIW I've had chickens off and on for 60 years and have 14 now. 5-6 up to 9-10 eggs a day. Winter though is substantially more expensive to keep because free ranging them gains them little food. 50 pounds of scratch grains is $13 bucks and protein crumbles/pellets id $14/50 lb.

You guys had me worried but went to United last night and they were stocked. Bought two 18's. Should last me 9-10 days....I like eggs.

And I like home raised chicken eggs but I don't ever miss the red spec.

Might have just been panic buying due to news on bird flu. Kinda like the toilet paper run in 2020.

Magical bird flu, magical crop failures, beef price going through the roof. Next thing will be the avocado cartel acting up..... the free market is struggling as I think it's not exactly a free market currently.
