The Land Rover and Lexus thread got me to thinking about simplified vehicles.
I know (or am pretty sure) a Roxor isn't street legal, but do any of y'all know anyone with one? Anyone have any firsthand experience with one?
I have seen them out at TMS a few times for marketing stuff. I wish another new-vehicle manufacturer would tackle a barebones, yet street legal, machine. Even without being street legal, they look like a banger.

I don’t even know what a Roxor is. But there are so many federal safety and emissions regs for vehicles now that it is pretty much impossible to build a bare bones car that is legal.

I guess they would be nice on a 20,000 acre ranch, but why pay used jeep prices for something you can never drive on the road. Also, with prices in the mid to high twenties you could get the most capable UTV made. Not a rough [censored] little jeep knock off.

I think the minor problem is installing the equipment to make it competent on the street. That’s not that hard. I think the real battle will be getting it titled and licensed to operate on public roadways. I don’t know what kind of proof of ownership you get when you buy one, but it is not a regular motor vehicle title. Without that, there probably will be no license plate and therefore, no legal road use. Maybe there are hoops to jump through, but it seems to me you will come up agains the same obstacles as people who would like to drive a side by side on the road. I don’t know, but that’s the way I see it.

All of those regulations are for newly manufactured vehicles. I don't about the process for a dune buggy or other off road vehicle.

My guess would be they are titled similar to atv/utvs. I bet there is some form to fill out and a DPS inspection (similar to homemade trailer) to change title to register and license it to get plates.

The old-school. The chassis was a titled VW running gear out of a bug. Windshield, turn signals, head lights, brake lights.
Nobody said anything about fenders. It's technically nothing but a VW bug.
Building something from scratch? That has never had a title? No idea what that'd take.

Mahindra actually has had a contract with Willys to build these since 1947. But just recently started selling them in the US as an off road vehicle. I'd love to have one.
