I will be funding my grandson’s college at UTA or UNT next year. Anyone recently paid for 15 hours and books. Or where to find out. Thanks

All I know is that it's totally out of control.

When I was at UT in the 60s, tuition in all state schools in Texas was $50/semester. Not per hour. You could carry as many as 21 hours for a total of $50. Tuition, fees and books would cost me about $300 (books were the big expense.) Room and board was the biggest expense of all.

I would research hard before you send him off. I know a number of people who thought they were doing the right thing for their children only for them to come out unrecognizable, hateful towards this Country and conservative values. Poor attitude, big expense, huge debt, no ROI on the job market, depressed, lazy, broke, living off their parents, etc.

On the other hand I know just as many who came out with something of value.

Yes it was 65 years ago. What's your point? Do you think the high tuition rates are fees are about where they should be?

State and Federal governments used to pick up the lions share of colleges expenses by funding colleges directly.

Once they stepped away it fell on the students and their parents.

Thank goodness Riley is going to Cisco on Rodeo Scholarship. In addition to that she has also received through FFA, THSRA and Community Scholarships about 50-60k. As well as what we as parents have saved. Hopefully we get almost all if not all of her tuition paid.

I was at UTA starting in 1971. Tuition and fees for 15 hours my first semester was $220.
Those were the days when the UT system had bunches of oil money coming in to fund education.
The UT system was one of the least expensive schools in the nation.

When my daughter went to UTA her tuition went from $3k a semester to around $3.5k a semester when she graduated. 2006-2010.

My best advice to you is to establish a relationship with the schools financial aid/ scholarships office. You need to make sure your grandchild has applied for every need based program they can as well as merit based program. Also pay the school directly. Not your grandchild. I have seen many a parent and grandparent here at Texas State find out after four years their young one never even attended school beyond their first semester and lived it up on their money the rest of the time.
