I traveled to Meridian State Park this weekend and took Highway 174 south out of Cleburne. When I arrived at the intersection at Hwy 933 (to Blum) and Hwy 174, there were large signs saying road closed. I stopped off at a nearby store on Hwy 933 and spoke with someone that lives close by. That's when they confirmed that the Kimball bridge is closed. With 174 closed, I went south on 933 to Whitney and then picked up Hwy 22 into Meridian.
I have no idea when the bridge repairs will be completed. There's been a traffic light on each side of the bridge that controls the flow of traffic (single lane) for quite some time - seems like more than a year. I wanted to save someone a bit of time if you're heading that way.

Thank you for the report. Not many road choices out that way. The road is closed because TxDot is replacing the bridge. The work started in 2022 and is proposed to be completed in the summer of 2024. So, it may be opened by 2030. Sorry for the sarcastic response, but there doesn’t seem to be much accountability for TxDot missing their completion dates. Hopefully I am wrong on this one. https://ftp.txdot.gov/pub/txdot/get-involved/wac/sh-174/020922-presentation.pdf

Yep it’s closed. IF the single lane old bridge is going to remain closed until the new bridge opens then it’s going to be a LONG TIME! That new bridge is no where near close to opening any time soon!

Driving over that bridge gives me the creeps. I have a phobia about bridges and that one is in my top 5 most hated.

Is it confirmed that the old bridge will not reopen at all?

Important update - they have reopened access to the Kimball bridge on Hwy 174. I drove back from Meridian yesterday (Sunday) and drove across the Kimball bridge going home. A gentleman that lives west of the Brazos River told me the bridge had been closed due to the shear size and volume of debris (travel travels and other large objects) that slammed into the bridge during flooding. Apparently, they wanted assurance that the bridge was still structurally sound - that's what I was told.
