I fished with mono for decades like many of you have. I switched to fluro a few years ago and tried many different brands. I like the feel and that it sinks, but have yet to find one that is close to the abrasion resistance that mono is. And the cost, wow, sky is the limit on fluro. I'm thinking of switching back to mono for my soft plastics. Has anyone done this? Just curious from those that have if they were happier going back to mono.

My 2 cents... I have tried fluro, like you, I personally never saw a difference in the two -mono/fluro. Got tired of the cost and went back to good ole 15# Green Big Game and have had no issues.

Yes...tried many different brands of fluorocarbon & mono after many many years of strictly fluoro...settled on Berkley's Big Game. It's the best for my style of fishing which is spinning/Shakey Head/Ned Rig.

I have never used Fluro but the price of Ande mono is too high for me. So far, I am impressed with P Line mono but thinks for reminding me about Berkley Big Game.

I had a couple fish losses last year that cost me money. I had always thrown basically 15 and 20 poind big game. This year I'm throwing 20 and 25 pound flouro on everything but a couple braid rods. The stuff is expensive...... I buy big rolls and use mono backer on most to try and save. I like the way the heavy flouro handles compared to say 25 mono. I have got a couple fish outa nasty stuff and out from under docks that I feel like I would have lost and the hook sets with the big flipping hooks I'm using now feel pretty good. I'm gonna do it for a year or 2 and see. I think in the end I will end up with flouro on about 4 or 5 rods, braid on a couple and the other ones will be big game just because of cost.

I use mono with moving baits, crank, spinner... And floro on worm, jig, flippin' and pitchin'... I did put momo on a rod I used for football jigs and used it this winter. Caught just as many on mono as floro so I might make the switch back and go with floro on flippin' and pitchin' rods only... Dan

Just started using Flouro this past year. It seems a little less stretchy than mono, more like braid, I've thrown squarebills with it and had a break off this year in the middle of a length of a cast like you cut it with scissors. It seems a little more sensitive too. I think what I have been using is a Berkley product; Vanish, for flouro. My mono is either Big Game or BPS Excel and both perform flawlessly.

I think when you start considering using fluro for the first time, or changing from what you’ve been doing you need to do some research.

Fluro come in all different types. Some stretches a lot, some a little, some hardly at all and to make it more complicated at different diameters it changes.

I pay attention to line diameter not pound test, that is what is important to me. If you look at different fluro makers some
Brands 6 pound is as thick as another’s 10 and so on.

Some has a lot of memory, some has more abrasion resistance.

Many of us who have been using fluro for quite awhile has found what works for us.

If you’re looking for just pure cheap, strong, reliable like, Berkeley Big Game is the winner by miles, but like many things it has it’s limitations.

Lots of years and reviews have been done online, that might save you some time and frustration

I was all fluoro for a long time. Started using P-Line CX Premium. Supple, limp and tough. No more fluoro. Much cheaper. Can get at academy. I just haven’t seen a big advantage to fluoro

Flouro has proven itself to me tol many times in my own fishing. I stick with Sunline Super Flouro or Sunline Sniper for most bot9om techniques, squarebills, spinnerbaits and swimjigs.

Sunline Supernatural Mono

BTW...I buy my Sunline like everyone else. I have no connection to them. I just like their products as they have held up for me. I use the Supernatural on big swimbaits, topwaters etc.

That’s it! I bought 3 spools and going to give it a whirl. After watching a YouTube video on fluoro stretch it changed my opinion somewhat on the superiority of fluoro so thought I’d give the supernatural a try.
