Man ,I am Jealous! If I was gonna buy a place on the lake it would prolly be Palestine. Some of the best crappie fishing I have found, more than enough catfish, sandies and hybrids! Ya'll made a good choice for fishin as far as I am concerned! Good luck!

I have been fishing Palestine since 1970. I have caught a few 3s but have never found a hold loaded with them.

Ryan:

Good choice on a place to buy a lake house. My family and I have been here since 1972. We've seen all the ups and downs. As to 3# crappie being the norm, I guess I'm just not holding my mouth right. But, I do catch my fair share of 2#+ fish. Aubrey has it right, I think, as to proportions.

With the recent rise in water and timing of same, I think we're going to see a reemergence of the crappie population back to pre-drought levels over the next couple of years. The amount of vegetation that had grown up when the water was low was awesome and created perfect hiding for the fry of crappie, bass, catfish, bluegills and bream when the water came up and stayed somewhat stable throughout the spawn. We never have a shortage of good catfish. IMHO hybrids and whites are fine, too, but aren't my first interest. You'll find lots of optimum underwater terrain to place brush piles for continuous production of good stringers of crappie and if you use your sonar right, you'll stumble across those that others have placed.

Good luck with the new house and good fishing. Look for a geezer with a camo Xpress and orange cap and that'll likely be me.

DBman- Don't see much reason for you to bang your head on the wall on my account, just making a comment on catching 3 lb fish.

Ryan- Blue Heron nailed it. The lake is set to explode in the next couple years. He and Aubrey know a lot more about it than I do, but I've been fishing Palestine since I could stand up in the boat. Ample areas for productive brush piles, as well as existing timber that can produce at the right time of year. Sandies and striper are relatively easy to find on main lake anywhere south of Westberry Landing in the spring and through the summer. Great catfishing just about anywhere on the lake. The true bassers may dispute this, but IMHO the bassing is pretty good, too. Maybe not alot of size, but you can catch plenty. Drop me a line when you get the house, if you'd like.

For you Palestine guys, I've got a Lake Palestine specific forum going over at my place, LoneStarLakes.com. I've also got the mapping system that will allow you to mark up places that are good to fish.

It would be great to have you guys over there so that we can concentration on this great lake.
