The flys

I like this one to start

The rig

Point the rod straight at the fly and bring it in with short slow strips

Catch bass

Catch BIG bass

Last cast bass, the best way to end the day.

Quicktime movie of the lake where I fished for this post. It takes a while to load depending on your hookup..

Yes I tied these and about a thousand others. Send me your address and I'll send you some for free.. I've tied about a hundred bass bugs so far and I'll never get to test them all! The fly is suppose to look like a small sunfish and stay just under the surface or sink very slowly. The action on these flys just kills the bass.. it looks like an easy meal and they really pound them. I caught about a dozen bass Friday evening while the kids goofed around out in the woods..

I tie these bass bugs on a #1 Mustad stainless steel hook. It takes about 20 minutes per fly and you can make them weedless if desired. I don't do weedless because it often means fishless as well... miss to many strikes as it is. The wide shank hook makes a big difference but you really have to strip set hard to set the hook in a big bass. My flys aren't pretty enough to sell in the store but they do work well, at least where I've been fishing around Central Texas.

I sent you a few of every different size and type of hairbugs I've tied since March. Some of those have already caught fish and others haven't even seen the water! Good luck and tell us how you do with them hairbugs wink
