Is there a particular weight you like to use? I fish a lot of ponds with thick vegetation is there a weight shape that works better than others? Can you skip a free rig?
Lastly what bait would would you start with?

I prefer a 4 pound lead weight on a “free rig”.
Small Halibut, Cod, Salmon and Arctic Grayling are money for baits.
Good luck! Oh, tear drop or hanging roids weights work best for punching grass.
