No kidding... Called Valvoline Instant Oil Change and they told me over a $100 to change the oil on a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee... It only holds 5 quarts... Went to Walley World and bought the oil and filter for under $35... Took me 10 minutes... Dan

My wife has a 2020 Jeep Wrangler with the 3.0L EcoDiesel. It takes 5W-40 and 9 quarts and the OEM oil filter lists for $111.00 but is on sale for $77.94. Good thing it gets 30 MPG on the highway instead of the 17 her gas Wrangler got.

If you are doing dealer oil changes they will probably offer and recommend the synthetic blend but you can opt for full synthetic...for little higher price of course. Both of the dealers near me say 5k miles on an oil change. 140$-150$ for the blend and 230$ for the full synthetic this will include tire rotation and other fluids checked and topped off. Also, one would add up to two gallons of DEF for those prices.

Ridiculous. 6.7 Cummings is oil change every 15,000.

Ford F150 was every 10,000.

All oil change places put 5,000 or even less on the sticker. Why wouldn’t they? It’s going to double their revenue.

I have never had an oil related issue on any vehicle I ever owned. Always change them at the manufacturer’s max. Never ran a synthetic until the 6.7 Cummins. Running the full synthetic on it. They change it for $50. I get the filter and oil on line. I think it was $160 total last change.

No charge to rotate tires at Discount Tire.

Newer gas motors had to increase oil capacity to help offset the low weights of oil being used.

Tighter tolerances, overhead cams, cam phasers, and the epa are the reason for low weights. With higher temp thermostats and lean a/f ratios manufacturers now use oil fed cooling jets to spray the bottom of the pistons is the reason for increased oil capacities.

Fumoto valves are your friend. I have them on all our vehicles, Tractors, motor grader, I'd put one on the dozer, loader and excavator if I wasn't scared of breaking it off. It makes oil changes a snap.

Most of the reasons you stated are why they had to use lower weight oil. The higher capacities help with heat dissipation and oil life

I agree going to Discount but that is just another stop for me and an hour wait usually

2023 F150 with a 5.0 --- 7.7 qts. I change my own because I can. I used Mobil 1 for years but my son talked me into using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Synthetic . Manufacturer recommends every 10K changes but I try to do every 7.5K changes with 5W-30

Advice? Wise men don't need it. Fools won't heed it.
