Bryan New's actions resulted in a FULL tournament disqualification that carries implications on entering other tournaments in other organizations. I don't agree with what he did but he only prevented anglers from catching one fish.
Last year I was at the Bassmaster Open at Lake Eufaula where I was involved with a certain lawyer and Tucker Smith. His actions of holesitting or "not stopping the lawyer from yelling at me" prevented me and other anglers from fishing a huge school of fish (the winning school of fish) all day. I am not saying this impacted our entire seasons but it could have. Tucker Smith was disqualified by the same rule Bryan New was disqualified for by "interfering with another angler's ability to compete". Tucker Smith's one day disqualification allowed him to fish other events and even win the ACA college national championship that year. ACA has a rule that prevents anglers who've been disqualified to compete.
I don't like what Bryan New did but it seems much steeper for something that is less severe than holesitting. Seems like Bassmaster is enforcing rules like Major League Fishing. New will not have any problems fishing other tournaments. Most tournaments bylaws read like BASS bylaws... Any disqualification, suspension from, or other disciplinary action regarding any tournament or fishing organization, shall be grounds for rejecting any application for participation in a BASS tournament, and/or disqualification from a BASS tournament, after circumstances are reviewed by the Tournament Director.

I will give credit to New for admitting it was intentional, most likely would have tried to see it was unintentional. I think that fact does say something about his character.
However, even if it was not against the rules, I just can’t comprehend why anyone would even think of doing such a thing. That thought would have never even crossed my mind.

I figure if you have 100 entries 1 or 2 or gonna flat out cheat some how, another 10 would if they thought they could get away with it. Then 10 or 15 more will act like total dirt bags cutting people off, fishing all over the top of people just little stuff like that. The rest will act like proper and decent people. Basically 20 or 25 percent of the people cause all the problems. That is spot on. But getting worse every year.
Retirement best job ever.

What a great " circle of friends "- Scott Martin, Ish, Castledine........what a joke & bunch of pre-madonna's...................it's not your fish- or your bed- you should have just left the cove & fished somewhere else. This is why lots of us quit watching these so called pro's . Idiots like you are why we have to have people uphold the integrity of the sport. The fact that you see nothing wrong with what he did pretty well tells the world wht kind of person you are.

New is a crybaby. Always whining about something from ffs to this lake sucks now to mean guy turned me in.
He should approach Kleenex for a deal. He should own up on what he did. Some folks say it’s petty and sop. If that’s the case B.A.S.S. should change the rule. (It’s not sop and B.A.S.S. shouldn’t change the rule) and if that’s the case he shouldn’t be upset with upshaw. But he doesn’t deny what he did, so it’s up to B.A.S.S. and the 3 angler panel. Which voted unanimously. So new should get his Kleenex sponsor and shut up
