I hit the river this morning in Georgetown. The sunnies were active and the bassgills were on beds chasing everything within site. Some of them were hungry too. There was a lot of action on nightcrawlers. Everyone wanted some today! Tons of redbreast sunfish in this area. I only caught one bluegill and the rest were redbreasts.

I used my Daiwa Presso 4ft microlight rod and my Daiwa QZ-750 microlight reel with 2lb test. The sunnies where a ton of fun on that tackle! I was catching until I got tired of catching.

I hooked into a chunk of a bassgill this morning. I'd wager to say it went four pounds plus. It was tons of fun on the microlight tackle but I lost it just as I was about the lip it. "The one that got away"!

What a great day.

Awesome post, some solid fish, and a nice river. Good job. thumb

Side Note: It's Redbreast time. I have also been catching a lot of them in my neck of the woods. hooked

There's lot of river that can only be accessed by wading. I'm going to wade it this season. Hopefully there's a few hot spots that haven't been touched

Excellent report, post and pictures. Glad to see the sunfish are getting active. thumb

The San Gabriel is an extraordinary water body. I've caught big sunfish, 10 inch Rios, 14 inch plus Guadalupe bass and 16 inch plus white bass in there. The stretch from Georgetown all the way down to Granger is very diverse and healthy.

This is where my next adventure is taking place. I live in Taylor so I'm very close to WMA Gate 9. I can park there and wade into the river. I plan on wading up stream toward Georgetown. I don't think there are too many people interested in wading that particular stretch. I'll be wading there in a few weeks. Hopefully I can catch a few for supper. I'll post here if I get lucky.

Thanks! I'm contemplating rigging out a Kayak with side scan and heading to Lady Bird. I've heard there are some big gills lurking there.
