I have Lowrance AT2 with transducer mounted on a motorized turret.
I use my AT every time I fish (which is fairly often) and after two years, have gotten to “average” level of proficiency.
Watching the pros use it on TV and YouTube videos tells me I am far from expert level. It ain’t easy.
I have seen several pros with turrets only to see them disappear off their boat next time out.

I fish mostly off shore on reservoirs with a fair amount of current. 95% largemouth. Ledges, creek channels, rock or brush piles.
Because I’m setting up on structure and not cruising around chasing spots after schools of bait, my tendency is to use spot lock. It’s very rare that current, wind and boat wakes would allow me to hold the boat in position with the TM and still be able to use a TM mounted transducer. Therefore the turret.
I can now see that the turret has its shortcomings however. My turret (live foot) is controlled by foot buttons or key fob. (Not a rocker peddle like the TM has). This means it is difficult to smoothly “sweep” the transducer left and right to center a target in the FFS cone. (Something I have come to realize is critical). On summer ledge fish, this is not to big an issue as current typically holds those fish pretty steady. This time of year is a bit more of a challenge with pre-spawners roaming around, always on the move.
I love my spot lock but it forces me to use a turret for FFS. Maybe I just need some kind of rocker peddle for the turret?
Thoughts? Disagree? Agree? Other ideas?

I fish structure when offshore fishing. I tried the on the trolling motor way but when I’d set up down wind on a rock pile and spotlock it was just a pain in the [censored] (for me) with the moving around. Also realize out here my offshore fishing is anywhere from 20’ to 80’. I to have the livefoot and love it. Again that’s what works best for me. Here’s my setup and no I don’t have any problems with the livefoot pedals. cheers

I really like my livescanner. I would check them out if you’re thinking about it.

After playing with my live since early last year I'm torn. On windy days I'd use the heck out of target lock but protected I don't really need it or do I? If you have the funds get the target lock. I'd rather have it for when I need it when I really think about it

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

I think the turret would be nice for crappie fishing. I just don’t see much use for it bass fishing though.

depends on how you fish to decide which is better. there are times i wish i had a turret, and most the time i"m glad I do not.

You don't see any of the pros that are good with FFS using a turret.

I'd probably knock it off on a Stump first time out! Knot, are you fishing in and around a lot of timber or mainly open water?

No timber in the lakes I’m fishing. They are highland reservoirs that when full can be 300 to 400 feet deep. Fishing rock piles for spots, sometimes large mouth in 25 to 80 fow depending on the time of year.
