Has anyone been to Possum Kingdom and caught any fish ? It has been a screwy year to say the least for me on this lake and Hubbard creek is not much better . Are there any thought on what is going on ?

Welcome to the club. Your not the only one brother. My little lake has so much dadgum bait, and allot of pressure year round and it has been very interesting as well. I had three days in February where I got a participation award. I didn't scale down, just looking for the big bite. But your not alone, I hope this makes you feel better. I primarily fish Grapevine, and I can tell you that historically when the water gets to full pool there is a tremendous amount of structure in the water (weed growth, small bushes, etc). The fish get in this stuff and the usual spots, techniques are broken. You have to do something different, and I mean totally different. I fished Athens for the first time ever on Sunday, what a cool little lake. I covered a tremendous amount of water with FFS,. Fish are not as dumb as you would think. When a fish comes up and looks at your bait, and then swims off you know they didn't like what they saw. See this allot on GV. But, If you slow down, then slow down even more you might be surprised. Have you ever fished with an old salty dog? I fished as a non-boater allot when I was in my mid 20's so I could fish with different people. Had several old salty dogs put a whooping on me using some really old baits. I actually thought to myself a couple times that "oh, I'm gonna make him look silly". Wrong, a couple old men taught me allot about technique. When the going gets tough, break out the oddball stuff, that you know hasn't been used in a while. I know PK gets allot of attention, and I have watched several videos from last year from tournaments on your lake. There's some giants in that lake. Some days you got to just turn all the electronics off, and do what you love to do. Last year I was out during the shad spawn, and for some reason my 7'6" spinning rod with 6lb braid and a 1/6 oz rooster tail was in the boat. I use this primarily at my little pond near the house. I just thought that I had never used a rooster tail at Grapevine before. I started using that setup and flat frickin whacked em. Caught one over 5 lbs that day. I started flipping rocks at the ramp to match the craw color, and it's the exact same color it was last year. Good luck, and know your not alone.. The lake is in a funk with a mild Golden Algea bloom. Huge shad kill in January. It happens every year late winter, some years worse than others. The striper fishing this year is really good. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2024/03/full-50986-217332-img_4343.jpeg)

Was there for two days last week and caught some GIANT stripers while bass fishing. Only caught a few blacks-- biggest was a heavy seven. IMO its fishing very tough and has been since last fall. With that said I was seeing a lot more activity on live scope than you would think for as slow as the fishing was. The next 45 days will be a good indicator.

Fished Hubbard Creek a week ago last Saturday and lots of dead shad along the dam. Contacted P&W biologist in Abilene about it. They were going to set gill nets to check fish early last week. Haven't heard back on anything yet.
Catch em, kiss em, let em go

There has been mild blooms going off and on IMHO for the last few weeks. I haven’t been in a couple weeks but when I was there water color was off, you could find dead and dying Shad pretty easy, and places that normally are teaming with fish were ghost towns. It’s been off for sure. Granbury’s bloom and kill is bad enough BRA has it posted on their social media.
