 Lake Palestine in late march

Looking to schedule a trip to palestine in late march for Bass and Crappie.
I'm looking at airbnbs - will the north or south end of the lake be better?

In March, I would suggest far north up in the Kickapoo area.... That's kinda what I was thinking. Although it seems that the spawn will occur earlier this year

Late March will be ok on the south end. There will still be plenty of fish up shallow and that includes the crappie. Plus, if you are not familiar with the lake, getting around on the south end is WAY easier than the north end. Kickapoo is a good area but it is tough to get around in. Several nice Airbnbs in the Saline Bay area which would put you midlake.

Depends on what you want to do. Late March will have post spawn fish north and spawning fish south Bass - I like to throw a swim jig, texas rigs and frogs I'm new to crappie fishing so I've never fished for them in the spawn, only found some on timber with livescope in winter time on my home lakes

We reserved a place in "big eddy bay"
If it's choppy (white capping) we can't run up the lake in the tin rig, so we'll stay in those coves
If it's not, I'll have boat lanes on the garmin to go up to kickapoo and wherever else fish might land

If you fish mid lake or south try Ledbetter Cove, Highsaw Cove, the back of Saline Bay, Country Line Inle and Chimney Cove. Up lake from where you will be staying is Old Folks Playground which can be good. Lots of cover if it is windy.
I would not go to Flat Cove. It looks pretty open but it's not. Lots and lots of stumps.

Dramabeats-I stayed in an Airbnb in Big Eddy Bay last year. If it's the same place, you'll have a nice dock with a boat slip. We just fished from the dock and caught a bunch of nice bass, sandbass and catfish. I went back later in the year with my boat and fished the rest of the docks in the cove. It's protected from the wind so if you're in a tin boat, you can just stay in Big Eddy and fish all the docks you want. Plenty of them have brush and cover all around. Be sure to fish between the docks too.....I saw several (including the one you may be staying in) that had a ton of "debris" along the shoreline and retaining walls. Chairs, cinder blocks, tree limbs, tires, etc. In late March take a couple dozen minnows and bobbers and you should be able to catch plenty of crappie in the same areas I just mentioned. If main lake is calm, you can go north out of Big Eddy and follow the West bank up to the Old Folks/Kickapoo area. Go VERY slow though.

I figured it would be one place that crappie may spawn but wasn't sure, I had the same idea about the minnows The place is on the south end of the bay, the one with the blue-ish roof on the dock. I also liked that it has a private boat ramp and I don't have to try to load in a cross wind with a bunch of people watching. I figured kickapoo would be good and if it's not like deadliest catch out on the main lake we will run up there.

Drama-that's the same house we stayed in. Small world. Its very nice and you will enjoy it. Good little firepit in the backyard. With the lake up, you'll have good water (7-8ft) off the end of the dock. If you're standing on the dock facing the lake, the shoreline to your left has a bunch of cover for fish. Lake was low when I was there so I could see all the structure. The main river channel swings into Big Eddy and is a good source of sandbass and hybrids....only a couple hundred yards out from your dock. (just past the no wake buoys) Flat Creek Marina is an easy 5 minute drive from the house and is a good source of minnows and crappie jigs. Their jig selection is unbelievable!!

I've seen some big bass come out of Palestine in March back when ABA opens where held there. I didn't get a good hook set throwing a swim jig in old lilly pads. I got her up to the top just out of net reach before she came off. My partner and I both got a good look at her before she came off. Tried everything to get that fish to bite again but wasn't having it.
If your are in a boat that lake is full of stumps. Definitely want to take it easy if you don't know the lake. I think there's a guide that sells way points to navigate. I don't remember it having marked boat lanes like other east tx lake have.
