The difference is incredible when there are actually a lot of fish around!!! By no means did I become proficient at getting the bass to bite but I definitely learned a ton and caught 15 +/- fish utilizing the scope. It also helped me realize I wasn't actually doing anything wrong at LBJ-there just aren't as many fish there where I was scoping! Something else I noticed on the private lake that was crazy was how many fish follow the bait back to the boat and then it was as if they enjoyed the company of the boat and stayed right under the boat about 5-10' down. I did actually catch a few of these by dropping my bait (chatterbait) down to them and jigging it. Why in the world did they get under the boat and follow me around? Shade? Anyone have that happen to them? Finally I'll add that the dang FFS is addicting as all get out and not easy by any stretch (actually for me it is ridiculously hard and I am amazed at what some of these guys can do with it) but when it was all said and done, I turned the dang thing off and went to a spawning flat and threw a Whopper Plopper around and absolutely smashed a bunch of great fish.

Most of the fish that I have scoped are deep and I get right over them and drop straight down. It's not that I'm trying to only do it that way it's just what has worked for my limited abilities. It's new, it's interesting, it's something to play with. And I eat a hell of a lot more crappie now. Piles of them. And yes if I had my way I would throw a spook all day instead but.....

I did have 2 what appeared to be bass follow bait. I actually consider that progress at this point

Thank you for this post. Bottom line is that FFS has made me way worse at fishing. I used to catch a limit no problem on an old boat. Not an easy learning curve.

I'm in no way against FFS I hope to have it some day. But will they start to apply the same rule as site fishing that the fish must be hooked in the mouth since all the stink about FFS is how well you can see what the fish is doing?

If you are worried about snagging bass with FFS just go try it and see how many fish you hit.

Watching it being used on TV is very misleading. Those guys are getting 6 to 10 bites a day but when viewing on TV it looks like they are killing them because of editing.

I would like to see a FFS only tournament and see what the weights are! I’ll bet it would surprise everyone how low they would be.

No, no, NO!!! You're completely wrong. All you have to do is turn it on and 10 pounders jump in the boat! Just ask all the haters, they'll tell you.

You must be doing something wrong!

I will never be able to use it to catch fish until #1 - I can use it independent of the trolling motor (yes I know you can do this now but my trolling motor shaft already looks like a cell tower) and it needs to tell me if I’m looking at a carp, drum, catfish, striper, hybrid, etc, or actually a bass. So I don’t waste my time. So in short, I will never be able to use it in my lifetime. Lol

I had no idea there were so many fish that don’t give a damn about the lure you are throwing.

If you like to catch fish and can afford it and you do not have it you are missing out on some fun.

It's funny people that do not use it saying you only get a few bites a day. We have been routinely catching 30+ fish a day on FFS in east Tx in 40+ feet of water in the past 6 weeks or so. If the water is below like 45 degrees a lot of the fish are on the bottom where you cannot see them. You will only catch a few most days, but they are usually bigger fish.

The pros are not casting to 2-3 pond fish at Toledo and Fork. If they were to cast to every fish they saw they would be catching an insane amount of fish per day. This time of year with giant shad balls there are hundreds if not thousands of fish around them. We are seeing 50+ fish wolfpacks as the norm. If you see 3 or more fish together they are extremely aggressive, the singles are often more finicky. Like it has been said bass and the bait move very fast as the water as the temps rise.

Honestly using the units and learning to dial them in is not hard at all. Finding fish, if you could before then you will with FFS. The hard part is learning to present your bait. When fish are aggressive you can get within in a few feet and they will come to it, when they aren't it can be very frustrating. You basically have to lead them in direction they are headed and lead them. It's like trying to shoot gamebirds.

It is the spawn and my good friend, whom I fish with a lot, said he doesn't care to ever go near the bank as long as the offshore FFS will bite. Oh and he is 64 and he is very good with FFS because he took the time to learn it and adapt to the technology that will help him catch more fish.

It is honestly one of the funnest things you'll ever do.

Get you a front looker and join the revolution

Once you get your head around the beam angle and what distance your at, just because you see the bait and the fish does -not- mean they are close to each other. It's tough!
