Headed there this Thursday. Anybody know how deep the channel cat are this time of year. I plan on starting out in 20 to 25 foot using stubbys. Thanks for any information.

This weather probably has them all messed up.

I would bait some timber in that depth as well as some shallower timber. When the water comes up real fast, so do the fish.

Good info above. Find some timber next to a creek channel and chum it up. Bait up with Stubbys on a #4 treble and go to it. If no action in 15-20 minutes, move on and repeat. If they are there, you will get bit.

I would try in that depth and get stubbys no weight I'm curious on the no weight suggestion. I fish Stubby's and love it. But I use a weight right down on top of the hook. I started with the weight 8-12 inches above the hook but I kept missing bites. I finally deduced that they must be hitting the weight. So I moved it down right on top of the hook and never missed another strike. Is that the reason, to keep the fish from biting the weight?

Channels and Blues feed funny when using prepared baits. Live bait is always trying to get away, so they're more aggressive.
With prepared bait, they often nuzzle up to a bait ball and nibble on it to taste it before taking the bait. No weight allows for better detection of when the bite occurs. Bobbers and weights just get in between you and the bait/hook.

Find a tree with nesting birds and hang on. We use Danny King stink bait.

I have a friend that lives at Sun Eagle Bay and when we go visit he has trees in 15 to 20 foot that he usually fishes. He will pull up and throw out a couple of big coffee cans of cow cubes and a can of dry dog food. Then he will leave and go to other trees. After he has done this at 5 or 6 trees he goes back to the first tree and starts fishing. Then he just goes from tree to tree. We always load the boat with blues and channels using cheese bait.

I do about the same but more like on can of range cubes at three different places, trees, points, rocks but usually in water less then 6 feet deep and have the same results.
