For a wacky rig on a medium spinning what pound test are you using. 20 Pound? What brand?

20 pound with a varying leader. Sometimes a high as 15 lb leader. Usually a 10 pound leader. Make your leader the length of the rod, from tip to bail. This way the leader knot isn’t in the spool when casting. Use an Alberto knot. 8 wraps up, 9 back. It will be a very strong, skinny knot.

20# Smackdown to a 10 or 12 lb Tatsu leader, depending on the cover.

30# or 40# superline (depending on the brand), it's about the line diameter not the strength, with a 20# flurocarbon leader about 3' long. Uni-uni knot for the splice except with micro guides, then FG knot for that. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.postimg.cc/SRcK5zBt/20160329-140112.jpg)

With weightless wacky, the fish can gently inhale and swim off with it....you have to watch the line, and having hi vis braid helps a lot. Unless you are fishing very clear water, hi vis braid is not a negative. You will fall in love with it once you try hi viz braid for weightless wacky, and then start using it for shaky head/neko rigs/ned rigs/hover rigs and other subtle presentations.
20lb hi vis braid mainline (15 yards of old mono backing) to six feet of 12 lb copolymer leader.
Power Pro Spectra hi vis is great, but the cheap (half the price) Reaction Tackle hi vis braid is just as strong (it's not as smooth going through the guides)

Thank you for all the feedback. I think I am going to try #20 Hi Vis Braid Sufix 832 to a fluro leader.

20# all the way to the hook. My last 4 good fish (greater than 5 pounds) came this way.

Any decent baitcaster will throw a wacky on 20# line of any flavor. I hate spinning reels. Use them only when absolutely necessary. Sorry, I feel better now.

agree with it's more about line diameter than weight rating... 10lb is plenty, but 20lb is much eaiser to manage on the spool. I typically run 20lb J-Braid Hi vis Green, but only because I got a few spools on some crazy sale - I'm not married to it and when I need more I'll likely look for something else on sale .

Yes, 10 pound braid is painful to tie knots with and I can cast 20lb braid just about as far as 10lb. 20lb braid has the same diameter as 6lb mono….I understand that 10lb braid is strong enough for bass fishing, but it is too narrow for me to work with efficiently…..The only knot easy to tie with 10lb braid is a wind knot.
