I remember being in grade school and walking from our school to go see "The Sound of Music". I think it was in 1969 @ Christmas time and I was in the 5th grade with Mrs. Carpenter as my teacher. That is my first memory of a movie. I remember going to lots of movies since I lived 3 blocks from the Majestic theatre and could walk there. The Saturday matinees were my favorite. They always showed cartoons before the movie. I remember seeing lots of Elvis movies also. Just not my first.

Grew up in small town, with no movie theatre (and it still doesn't :), it was/is a vacation "destination" town, and the local hospitality comp would screen some Disney movies and Nature shows, etc I used to see when very young. But first real movie would have been after family moved to Atlanta, and would have been Star Wars in '77. But, unlike seemingly every other kid in school at the time, I only went to see it once lol. I also went to see Close Encounters movie that year, though it was going to be like Star Wars, boy was I disapointed lol. Not as bad as expecting Midnight Cowboy to be a western disapointed lol, but still was pretty bummed as an 11-12 year old.

Yep. My dad also thought it was gonna be a western and took all us kids to the drive in. We didn't really pay attention because we spent the whole time on the playground. But, he never took us to another movie.
