Been looking at these, about to pull the trigger on ebay but then stopped by a junk shop and found this beauty mounted on a crummy Honeywell branded Pentax. No hazing, no fungus, not even any dust on the inside, and no oil on the aperture blades. It has the amount of wear on the outside that a 1-2 year old lens would have. Not bad for a 50+ year old lens. $31 all in.

The Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55mm was made with thorium glass, so it's radioactive and will set off a Geiger counter. It has a little bit of yellowing, but that goes away with exposure to UV light for about a day.

Previous home taken with the lens. Excellent bokeh, this lens is going to be a lot of radioactive fun.

I know nothing about cameras but I’ll bet that thing will take some really good pictures.

It's an addiction for sure. Luckily many good vintage lenses are pretty cheap, especially ones that might be thought of as "starter" vintage lenses.

This one would have probably cost me around $125-$150 off ebay for the condition it's in, with $30 of that being shipping from Japan.

I have a Minolta SLR camera with a couple of lenses that's about 45 years old.
I wonder if it's worth anything. It's been stored in a camera bag up in a corner of a closet for years.
May have to pull it out and look and see if I can find anything online.

Probably not. I bought all the amateur photo equipment for the old Barry's Camera and Video stores back in the late 80s/early 90s. I had a Nikon N8008 which was the top-of-the-line Nikon amateur auto focus camera. In 1988 it sold for about $850 (body only). Today, if you can find them, they go for about $25-50. Lenses sell for $10-25. I will keep mine just for nostalgia reasons.

Ha...I spent way too much time poring over Barry's ads when I was in high school.
