If you have equity in a home or vehicle ask your lender if they would consider adding the boat to that loan. I did that one mine but it was a while back, not sure how keen those institutions would be on that right now. But it would likely get you a much better interest rate if you're going to finance.

I’d strongly advise against this. You are putting a lien on the place your family sleeps at night to have a boat- let that sink in… I think boat loans are dumb, but at least they’ll just come repo the boat. You do a heloc and they aren’t coming after the boat, they are coming after the house.

Always had little tin boats, bass trackers, stuff like that. Looking to finally buckle down and buy a big boy boat. Looking at different boats from the 40-65K range. Do you guys like new or used? What's the best way to buy one of these? Are you guys getting pre-approved from your bank? Are you using the dealerships bank? Cash down? Extended years on the note? Will listen to any tips you pros may have for a first time boat buyer. You can buy a very nice rig for that price range. I would advise you buy a 1-2 yr old boat that still has warranty. Most of the new Mercs and Yams come with a 5 yr warranty. Pay cash if you can but if not no biggie. Put as much down as you can and look around for the best interest rates. I have purchased a bunch of them over the years and mostly financed them for no more than 5 yrs. I have found that if I put 10% down and financed the rest I am not upside down after year one. You don't need to get pre-approved for a loan. Most financial institutions will approve you within 10 mins if you are trying to borrow money and you have good credit. If your credit score is above 720 you will get the best interest rates. My problem has always been that I am sick of the boat within 12-18 months and I want the new bright and shiny thing witht a bigger motor. Buy at least a 20 footer with a 200 HP or you may be disappointed. Keep an eye out and look for the boats that have been won in a tournament. I sold a new Skeeter with a 150 SHO I won for about 60% of what it would've sold for at the dealership. That guy got a smoking deal. There are several boats given away as prizes every year and the winners almost always sell them on the spot or within a few weeks. You can follow Bass Champs and go to the weigh in at their events and buy a boat from the winners if you don't care if its a Skeeter. Travis Decker has a 18ft Ranger he won in a tournament in his price range and well equipped. Seems like a crazy deal.

With today's inflation and interest rates I would be apprehensive on anything new or built in the last couple years since prices have gone through the roof since Covid.
If I were to buy today, I'd go used. You can always re-power, put a gorilla hull on, re-carpet it.
Large Credit Unions and Dealer preferred banks give the best terms.

I’m really surprised boat theft isn’t through the roof.

For whatever reason, I keep find myself looking at those new Triton 20XP’s. Interest rate isn’t too bad on them, but spending $70k on a toy makes me want to puke.
Dang that skeeter deal sounds nice!
