Anybody catching white bass up the creeks right now or is it still too early. When does it normally start around the DFW area? I know people are starting to get some in south and east texas right now. I normally don't start heading out and fishing the creeks until the first week in March. Hopefully all the rain we have been getting here will make for a great white bass season.

There are always a few creeks that start early, but regarding a widespread run it’s too early. I bet we are at least a month out from being a sure bet everywhere.

I would be out checking now and in the next few weeks. I was catching limits the last week of feb last year and I bet this year is going to be the same. With everything, not every creek or year is the same. Usually by the end of Feb you can catch limits in "early creeks". Creeks with treatment plants putting water in them usually start first as the water is warmer.

I chase them about an hour east of DFW and can tell you where I fish the last week of February is when it gets hot, if the water levels are like they are now, I will fish Feb 23-25 every year and have for 25+ years. For where I fish, I have not missed those dates unless the river is flooding or to low. Most years when full, it is dynamite and the first few days of non stop big whites. It gets even better for another few weeks as it peaks in that area. Those fish run along way from the lake, we are more than a mile from the lake. I always hear late March and April from folks so I just figure the area I like must be different.
Back in the late 80s me and dad would fish village creek out of Arlington late March/early April and would find pockets of fish. Back then we had access probably mile south of I-20 maybe further but that went away by 1990.

I have a spot out east where I can consistently catch limits starting around Christmas and new years. One year I was busting ice off the rod guides a few days after Christmas and catching a fish every cast for hours. This is the exception, not the rule. There are creeks in DFW where you can catch them now, but I’m not about to divulge that information on a public forum.

I know places deeper east that run January but I'm not that deep east tx when river chasing whites. I don't even try in DFW anymore.

I’ve got some off the grid spots I can still go to and not be overrun by folks, but it doesn’t take but about one person to post it on Facebook and it’s time to find another creek. I do my best to stay off the beaten path.

I would definitely be looking at my favorite places right now!
We are catching them regularly and 2 of the fish I kept last night were females about ready to drop. VERY developed eggs and several of the males were milting. Not saying the BIG push is here, but there are plenty to keep you busy and make a fish fry.
Should be good for the next 5-6wks...

I did pretty good late last week. Tried the same places today for about an hour and not even a bite. Didnt talk to anyone that did any good either. Water was much clearer and dropped about 3" from last week. I gotta believe that cold front is to blame. Never seen it this bad in late february.

How long does the white bass run usually last and when does it slow down?Mid-end of April and by May they are back in the main lake. I could be wrong though.
