Those work great.
When the sows farrrowed during planting or harvesting and we didn’t get around to docking the hog’s tails until they were too big just put one of those around the base and in a few days or so they just fall off. No blood no muss no fuss.

I had a vet tech friend look at it. She said it probably needed to come off due to blood flow issues but referred us to a vet near us. They said the same thing. $1500 for the procedure on top of the $500 for initial exam, antibiotics, and pain meds. Our local old-school vet retired a couple of years ago. Alvarado Vet would probably be cheaper.

And if not Alvarado Vet, I can almost guarantee Bosque County Veterinarian Clinic in Meridian would be cheaper. I'm not sure if Mark Jackson is still the owner there, but he's a good dude and the younger male vet that was working there when we had to put Oreo down in October 2022 is excellent as well. The female vet that works there is cool, but not as detail oriented in my opinion as Dr. Jackson and the other guy. They have always been reasonable on their pricing. We started using them about 10 years ago.

You need a good country vet. No reason it won’t heal completely. Heck I’ve had dogs legs, tails, and one I had to have part of a lower jaw removed and they all healed fine. Your vet is a crook.

MadChad made his 13-14 year old daughter run the router to unplug the pipes after she put some feminine stuff in the commode and fouled things up. He posted about it here.
I thought that is where this thread was going.

Update on the dog. While the wife and I were finishing out duck season Sunday morning, the dog decided to take care of the tail herself. She chewed the damaged 4" off and ate it.... There was some stuff hanging out of it and the wife was distraught, so I took her to the emergency vet. I figured the dog was fine by the way she was acting, but I had to get out of the house. The vet said it's not uncommon for some dogs to do that. She had just treated a dog that tried chewing its leg off after it had just had surgery on it. I dropped her off for the scheduled amputation this morning, but the surgery tech came out and said, that since she chewed the injured section off, they are going to see if they can button it up there and avoid the full amputation. I guess we will see. The estimate she showed me this morning was for $1200, but with all the other appointments, bandaging, and the emergency vet visit, we are well over $2K into this stupid tail deal.
