Put it in a pencil sharpener and get a nice sharp point on it. That way you can hand Vienna sausages to your buddy in the back of the boat! 😉 Thanks man, needed that this morning. Most cleaver reply this week.

Well, I went to Fun N Sun in Hurst today to trade in my broken Fury rod in exchange plus cash for an upgrade to the Sierra rod. Unfortunately it didn't work. Thought I'd save myself $30 from having to mail it in, but they said they don't do that there. I believe I'll only be given $50 in credit for the damaged rod. I'll have to pay $30 to send off the damaged rod, so at the end of the day I'm really only saving $20. Suddenly the Dobyns warranty doesn't sound all that special. Anyways, I just wanted everybody to know so they don't drive 40 minutes like me for nothing.
UPDATE - I purchased the rod originally from Academy if it helps anybody. Had the receipt saved in my email.

Maybe they didn’t like seeing the Academy reciept, they might want to take care of the ones that were bought there? Could you take it to Academy? Or maybe keep it in your boat and drop in at dobyns if you go to sandlin or somewhere out east (assuming you’re in dfw) I’ve only ever done it direct to dobyns but they’ve always been great. I guess I’ve always had to pay the shipping and replacement fee, but on the more expensive rods it’s been worth it. Maybe not as much for the lower price points.

UPDATE - I purchased the rod originally from Academy if it helps anybody. Had the receipt saved in my email. You don't have to ship the whole rod back, just cut the logo section out of it and mail it in. You'll have to pay $80 to get a new one ($50 replacement fee and $30 return shipping). So you're still saving $50 over going to buy a new one, which retails for $129.

The Dobyn's factory is located in Sulphur Springs if you are close.

I didn’t even show them the Academy receipt. I just had it saved in my email just in case they needed to see proof of purchase. I went to Fun N Sun solely based on the reason that I was thinking since Fun N Sun is a retailer of Dobyns that I could just go through the, and eliminate the mailing process. Found out the hard way today. Hey, at least I managed to pick up some bags of plastics while I was there. Unfortunately I was looking to bring home an upgraded rod instead. It is what it is. Anybody else interested in purchasing a Dobyns rod should at least be made aware of what to expect if they were to be in my same position. I’m not dogging on the quality of the rod. Just letting the process be known. Sharing information is what this whole forum is about, right?

They grant me the $50 credit, and I put that towards a new rod that’s in store. In that situation we both win. Money is tight for me, and lots of people in this Biden economy for that matter. I don’t want the same rod again. Fury is a decent rod for the money, but a little too heavy for my liking. I might have to turn it into one of those feeding sticks suggested earlier after all. Lol It would be nice if I lived close to Sulphur Springs but I don’t. Being a family man with kid’s activities on the weekends it’s just too hard to find the time to make that 1 1/2 hour drive. Again, just want to bring light to a situation in case anybody else is interested in purchasing a Dobyns rod solely based off of the return/exchange policy.

Pretty simple, get a replacement rod from Dobyns. From Midllothian to Sulfur Springs is not that far.

Per the Policy, Fun-N-Sun could have done a swap for you, but thier participation is optional. This is more of a Fun-N-Sun issue than a problem with Dobyns Warranty. Doesn't help now, but I probably would have called them before driving hour and a half. Anyway, call Dobyns, they will get you sorted out quick. I've bought close to 40 rods from them, only had to warranty one, and it's because I slammed the door on it . Brand new mind you, never even been on the water...that one hurt. So I paid the "I effed up" fee and got a new rod in 2 days. No Hassle Replacement Policy – Through a Dobyns Rods Retailer
If you need to get a replacement rod immediately for that fishing trip tomorrow, simply take the damaged rod to your local participating Dobyns Rods dealer and pay them the replacement fee detailed below. They will keep your damaged rod and give you a new, same model rod in return. No questions asked, no shipping, no waiting or wondering about warranty claim charges. This replacement is dependent on the dealer having inventory of your damaged rod model and their willingness to participate in this program.

the retailers have the final say on in store replacements if you had purchased the rod from them they may have been more receptive to changing it out with dobyns warranty program a retailer could end up with a bunch of broken rods take their inventory replace broken an rod exchanges an then get stuck with the shipping bill for product that doesnt have a high retail margin.

It's a 2 hour drive, and 106 miles from Midlothian to Sulfur Springs. I think your definition of not that far is a little bit different than mine. Yeah you’re right. I was just hoping I could take it to a Dobyn’s retailer (Fun N Sun). They take my damaged rod. They grant me the $50 credit, and I put that towards a new rod that’s in store. I honestly feel like it was the lady behind the counter that didn't want to exchange it. I feel like if I were to go again and it be somebody else back there that I wouldn't have a problem with them taking it. I work about 15 minutes away from Fun N Sun. I might just give it another shot on my lunch break some day and see what happens.

Notice out there to anyone that has broken a dobyns rod. If in Southern Oklahoma, North Texas, East Texas or Houston, I will come by and take it off your hands and give you a crisp $20 bill. No need to trash it.

Ive done the change before with Fun n Sun with no issue last year. This must have been a change in their policy. I routinely go by Sulphur Springs on my way to Texarkana so I just do it there typically because I know they will have the exact rod that I want.
