Any recommendations on a spotted bass lake that’s in the N. Texas area that’s worth fishing this time of year? Looking to spend a couple days exploring new water.

Thanks!

Both lakes have them. I believe Cypress Springs has more of a population.

Can I ask why you are after spots in TX? I would suggest sliding over east a few states for better spot action. I like fishing bay springs outside Tupelo, MS on the tenn-Tom, a bit of a drive but not too bad.

Lake Holbrook is loaded with them. It’s a nice, quiet little lake and it’s fun to fish. Also has some nice largemouth in it for when the 1-1/2 pounders get boring.

Something different to target this time of year. I’ve fished a few states over for big spots, other than that the state sucks.

Most spots in N Texas are gonna be 12 to 16 inches. Not much size to them. I wish we had schools of 2 to 3 lbers with a mixed in 4lber in our lakes, but I don't think we do.

Fair enough. I’ve just never heard of anyone catching anything over a pound or 2 consistently in Texas, most of the ones I’ve caught are bite size.

Ray Roberts used to have a good population. Made this pic my screen shot on my iPhone. It was just under 4 pounds.

Legend, beautiful spot, that one looks over 4, and definitely an anomaly.

Ray Bob still has spots in it. Every year I stumble onto a few of them around 2 lbs.
