Hear ye, all TFF experts, I am in search of advice on what a basic business website should cost.
No fancy music, no bells and whistles. Just a basic informational page that tells the reader about my law practice (practice areas, a little bio, things like that) and gives my contact information.
I'm being quoted $1,500

Do it yourself on godaddy if you have a little time. They have page templates that are really really easy to work with. Just takes a little time playing with them. I’ve done two for different companies I’ve worked for.

Such a wide range of aspects come into play.
For the most basic of basics, 1500 is a damned good deal IMO.
When we build a site for a client - prices start at 20k - these are transactional sites with security and call center functionality so not a real applicable comparison outside of 1500 is reasonable.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I'm being quoted $1,500 Zac, I can do that for you for nothing. It's stupid easy and I can walk you through it. Wix / GoDaddy/Yolo make websites based off template and they're easy to manage. I've created a few in my time. Call me if you'd like to walk through it. The only cost would be the domain name and some smaller things. But not needing $1500. That should be creation of the site and web administration for the 1st 6 months.

What do you seak to gain from the page, you can do a Google profile for free. 1500 would be pretty basic assuming you are paying someone and it's one of the box configurations.

When someone asks me for my website, like a person from TFF, Facebook, etc who I don't know. I'm finding that my existing clients are referring people to me, but some of the prospects won't call or email me if they can't go to a website. Yutes, y'know?

$1500 is about right for a brochure site.
Make sure it's mobile compatible.
Don't do Wix or Godaddy. If you HAVE to go with a site builder, try SquareSpace. But only if you just have to.

Square Space... be a lot less than 1500 Yep. Done my fishing guide one through there. Easy peasy. Was just a few bucks first year then like maybe $120 or something this year. It is hochatownfishingguide.com if you want to check it out.
