Go to Ragtown.

Goliad State Park. If you like Texas history, the park and the town are great. Goliad town square is a neat place. County courthouse has “the hanging trees”. There’s an old Spanish mission on the grounds. A mile from the entrance are several historic places to see. A few miles up Hwy 59, is the Fannin Battlefield site. The park sits on the San Antonio River. Nice campground too.

Copper Breaks SP is on my bucket list to stay. It’s an International Dark Sky Park. Something I’d like to see.

Caprock Canyons SP is another on my bucket list. There’s a bison herd there.

Brazos Bend SP. This is one of our favorite places to camp. Lotsa gators and other wildlife to see. Really nice campgrounds. It’s only 30-40 minutes from our house so it’s handy for us.

A big +1 for Jimmy's picks -
Seen them all except copper breaks-

We are wasting our time.
1shot clearly isn’t the decision maker with this jurisdiction.

That spring-fed cold water in the Balmorhea pool is great in the summer, but not so much in the winter or spring. Regarding the cabins, are you thinking of the Indian Lodge at Ft. Davis State Park? I read somewhere they were doing renovations on the lodge but that may be finished by now.

Whitney has screened shelters. Goose Island, Palmetto, Inks Lake are all good parks with varying degrees of amenities.

One one the coast, one around Luling, one in the a highland lakes area.

Did you see the title of this thread? "Coolest State Parks in Texas?"

BTW - we love Lake Greeson. We stayed at Swaha Lodge a few years ago and will probably do it again in August.

Choke canyon state park. Legend has it that TPWD custom built it for truck driving hop when he wrote smoky and the bandit (his autobiography, I’m pretty sure he was the dog riding with Jerry Reed), and they built picnic tables specifically so hop could test out the parks facilities before the grand opening.

lake winsboro for the win! no state park but has a real nice crappie barge where you can fish all night... only five rooms but one is a family room with separate bedroom, boat ramp

I just became aware of two places you might want to consider.

The Boulders on lake Tyler. Lots of cabin options. They seem nice. You can look up the link.

7R Ranch just out west of us has cabins/rooms. Beutiful setting and good private lakes to fish

Not a state park, but take a look at Oak Thicket Park on Fayette. Very nice water front cabins.

nope the ones at Balmorhea were made by the CCC, but the ones at FT. Davis were under renovations if its complete or not I do not know

There is black and white footage of him killing 3 full grown gators that day with nothing but his CDL and a framing hammer. This is what later inspired Steve Irwin to choose his career
