My kid is stationed at Langley and I'm gonna drag my boat down from MN to take him fishing him for a few days.
Anything I need to know about navigation on Amistad?
I will have the Lakemaster chip and can set the offset for how low the pool is. Is there a website that publishes the lake level information?

I will be coming down around February 1st.
Any help with what tackle to be prepared with?

Anything else I need to know?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Stay in the channels, lots of rock around them on the edges of some.

So if I'm reading the chart right, it's 55 feet low. Haha we don't deal with anything like that up here. Thanks for the link!

Bring a oxygen tank for the walk from the boat ramp to the parking lot.

But can go from 90’-100’ to 0’ in about half of a second or 1 linear inch, so heed what TMD wrote. Might want to avoid going to the lake on February 3rd, decent sized tournament and the ramp will be a nightmare.

lol, at the oxygen tank comment.

My lower unit found a very aggressive rock there a few years back. Was where I least expected it and was a very costly bump.
Anywhere but the main channel, proceed with discretion.

Lots of humps and flats that come out of nowhere, and looooooooooooooong skinny points. It is a fun lake to fish, Feb is my favorite time to fish it, good luck!

Since you’re traveling such a long distance, I would recommend taking a couple days and go down to Falcon. Might hit the spawn then. Falcon Lake Tackle is a good resource.

If you fish the Mexican side, make sure you get a Mexican fishing license. There’s plenty of water on the Texas side to fish.

Water in Amistad is very clear. Since you’re from MN probably not a big deal to you.

The lake up the river is beautiful. On the map, where the Pecos and Rio Grande meet. For reference, the Pecos high river bridge. With the water level that low, might be a no go. Check before you go.

I don’t think the Pecos high bridge has been a go for quite some time.

If you are into old stuff make sure to check out Panther Cave. It is only accessible by boat and is quite a ride from the launching ramp but well worth it. Make sure your boat can go that far on a tank of gas as there is no place to fill up along the way.

Pecos High Bridge and Panther Cave are a no go. And, as mentioned above 100 feet to 0 feet in a nano second.

Assume you meant Laughlin AFB and not Langley. A fun lake but be careful with the weather. As mentioned the creek channels can break the wind but often its hard to get away from the ramp safely when Blue Northers come through.

Amistad is getting lower almost daily, they (Boundary & Water?) are letting quite a bit of water out. Lots of shoals starting to become visible. On the North end water is probably 1/2 mile south of where 277 crosses. There will still be plenty of water when you get here.

Pray for rain in Northern Mexico. They have 5 rivers that feed the Rio Grande.

Since the water is so low it has changed from crystal clear to a clear green with about 3ft of visibility. Heed all warnings above! I would not get up on plane in the dark "early morning or late evening "as you cannot see the islands just under the surface. Amistad is my home lake and it changes every time I fish it.
I target smallmouth with jigs and also catch plenty of largemouth with them too.
