Reading the post about everyone being sick got me to thinking about the remedies my mom and grandmother used on us when we were kids. Seems like my brother and I always came down with the flu or bad colds during the winter and when we did out came the home remedies. I know we had Vicks Vapor Rub in the largest sizes available because my mom would put that stuff on our chest like she was greasing a trailer axel and then wrap our chests in a warm towel. My grandmother, she made a concoction using lemons, honey and sugar for sore throats and molasses and some other stuff, I do not remember, for coughs. Stragely enough all of it seemed to help a little bit.

When I had ear aches as a child, my grandma would blow smoke from her unfiltered pallmalls into my ear. Haha.

Honey and lemon is a good one. Real chicken soup, heavy on the soup and light on the chicken was another one.

My grandma always had ginger ale around and when you had an upset tummy she made you drink some. It worked most of the time.

Vicks put under your nose at bedtime. The cure was worse than the scratch.
