Are lithium trolling motor batteries really worth the high cost? I understand I would need a special charger as well. Really struggling with the $6-900 cost.

Worth every penny. Don't recall anyone on here ever saying "Gee I wish I stayed with my old lead acids".

You can always buy budget lithium, just have to know that it might be harder to get the warranty swap if required.
Whole bunch of budget lithiums that get pretty good reviews.
Edit: they don’t do anything magical, I never had any issues with Walmart everstarts, I usually got at least 3 years out of them. I just wanted lighter batteries. As long as I can afford lithiums though, I’ll buy them. Zero gassing, light weight and no corrosion are my reasons.

Depends on what size you need. There are some good options out there that dont touch 600-900 bucks.

Nice to have. A few good features.
Are they worth the money? I have them in the Skeeter, but I doubt it was a good investment. I needed batteries, and was flush with cash, so I bought 4 - Ionics.
They charge fast, but that never was an issue with the old batteries. My NOCO worked with the lithiums. Seem to hold up well, but as long as I charged after use, never was an issue. Could fish hard all day on the old ones. Significantly lighter. Have no ideas how, or if, that impacted boat speed. I can run as fast as I want. Always have. Blue tooth monitoring. Don't know how I fished 70 years without. 21st century Gee Whiz. Maintenance free is nice, but 5 minutes a month to check the water isn't worth a lot, but my Skeeter is a PITA to access the batteries, so I like no maint. They do add some good resale value to your boat, if of value.
If they last like they are supposed to, a definite positive. I'm 77. The Ionics should last as long as me, but if I need to replace, I can. I had to get my grandson to pull the old lead/acids out when I put the Ionics in.
Like grout-scout, I've always run the Everstart's, after the Interstates that have come in my boats [censored] out.
My straight answer: No, they are not worth it if you have to pay for them. I'm relatively affluent, and had just bought HB Mega 360, Mega Live, Target Lock, so what's another few thousand.

Y’all are about to convince me. I have an 80lb 24v Minn Kota Riptide do I just need one 24v 100 amp hour battery and an onboard charger for lithium batteries?

“Affluent “. Haha. I got all of my Ionics AND THE CHARGER for $230 LESS than the Optima batteries that I took of the boat. You ain’t gotta be a flush king dingaling to afford batteries. Haha.

That was my deterrent for a 24v/36v. If the charger happens to break/mess up, you’re not running down to Walmart to get one.

It's not just the charger. If 24 or 36 volt battery goes down, you aren't going to WM to buy one.
I went with 3 - 12v for my Skeeter.
Way to go IMHO !

I know we are talking about using these batteries for the trolling motor, but I was wondering if the charging system on an outboard would charge these types of batteries or ruin them since it is not a lithium type charging system. Was going to get one for the outboard as well and was just wondering.
