I do not work for Academy or anything but I was just in two Austin area stores and both had huge clearance sections on soft plastics, cranks, jigs, general baits, etc

I have seen the same at my local stores as well. The problem is there is not near enough taken off the price yet to peak my interest in any of it. At some point they will run a 50% off already reduced prices and thats when people will start to buy it. This time of year there aint to many people motivated to buy fishing stuff at 10%-15% off.

I was at the McKinney store today. Cases of Googan plastics which seems to be the January norm and spinning rods on clearance. 1 All Star Classic baitcaster that was equivalent to a closet rod. Some Strike King stuff but only 15% off.

They started carrying some popular brands that they did not have before as well. I bought a handful of the Dirty Jigs Compact Flipping Jigs.

Screw Academy. My sister in law bought me golf balls and full size brush hogs for Christmas. (She's a great sis in law). But they were wrong color and size. She didn't bring receipts down to Austin. Took the stuff up to ECXHANGE the products...NOT REFUND! Same brand, Zoom and Bridgestone. Same price products. I also brought up about $100.00 of other stuff I wanted to buy. Because I didn't have a receipt they would only allow me $9.95 on a box of $25.00 golf balls, and $2.95 on the brush hogs. BS! Screw them. That ain't gonna fly. A LOT more to this story and I'll post it all.

Have you considered that maybe, just maybe that’s what your sil paid for them? Bridgestone balls were $9.95 at my academy yesterday…and trading in gifts from family is pretty tacky anyways.
