For those of you curious about the current bite, check out Matt's great trip report:
Pangrac's Picks for December El Salto Bass Fishing

I know that safety in Mexico is always a hot topic of conversation and I don't expect to change anyone's mind. If you're not comfortable, you probably shouldn't go. With that established, on BTL last week he pointed out that he felt 100% safe and is sorry that he listened to the negative talk and did not go sooner.

Wow what a trip sounds like fun and when you get back you may need a week or to to rest your hands. What's the trip details. Travel and cost.
Thanks for posting

Easy to get there -- direct flight from DFW to MZT most days of the week, they pick you up in a van and head straight to the lodge.
Cost depends on which lodge you stay at. If you'd be interested in Anglers Inn, send me a PM. My wife can help you get booked.

I'm going on my 6th trip to Salto on Jan 8, so thanks for the bait recommendations! Matt described the trip perfectly. On my first trip I was a little safety concerned (USgov't warnings about Sinaloa) but all that went away when I experienced the situation and now I go with an easy mind.

In addition to the Pepto, I would take a pack of Dulcolax because they feed you like college football players at every meal and it's easy to get constipated. They generally serve papaya which is a good natural laxative if it's in season.

In the past, I've disassembled my reels, put the spools with line on them in checked baggage and carried the reel bodies in carry-on, having been warned about complete reels being stolen from checked baggage. This year I'm putting complete reels in my checked bags. Is this something to worry about?

We always keep our reels in our carry-ons on the way down to ensure that we'll have them when we arrive. We've never had a problem in 20 or so trips. Then we put them in our checked luggage on the way home. Mexico's version of TSA seems to have gotten both stricter and more inconsistent in recent times, so we can't take the risk of having them confiscated.
