Welcome to Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] Early Edition 2024 (12-30-23 Sat. AM-1): Time for the New Year's thread for 2024. Perhaps you are just tuning in. Here & there, in previous years, I have shared some tips. And in the 2010 thread, there is my share on the Catfish Calendar. Even though I discovered the YC pattern & my Catfish Calendar back in 1981, I mapped it out in 1982 for 3 years- 1983 thru 1985, just to confirm it. That was on the Trinity River downstream from TX 21 bridge. I also had tried it off TX 21 on the Navasota River & Brazos River in 1981, which is how I realized something was different. I also found that Gator Gars use the same days as do YCs, but run (feed) a few hours earlier. It is very close to 7 off, 2 on, 7 off, 2 on, 7 off, 3 on, then repeat. There is a slight overlap from time to time to re-adjust. My PYC (Personal YellowCat Days) days are the actual pattern, which most of the time coincides with the Catfish Calendar. The Calendar shows one of my 4 "sigs", which is the strongest for that day. Of course, there are other factors that can weigh in. And then I hit (found) a more chaotic pattern of the BCs. And then there is Bleedover (overlap), which like Dave learned, if you play it right, you can capitalize on it to incresase your volume on an outing. See the KEY for several tips & findings (observations) to assist you. I discovered what I term or call a "roam-feed circuit switch". You might say, it is a sort of built-in pattern (instinct), in which a certain variety of fish must leave comfort & go out to gather food, instead of laying low, and waiting for iot to come to you. My estimation is that 66% to 75% of that species follow this pattern, and the rest that do not . THey are what I refer to as "rogue". In other words, they dance to a different tune/beat. The KEY shares my 4 sigs, as well as tips & pointers learned over the years, from me & my three prize YC/Calendar students- Jeff & James S. & Elvin L. They had never caught any YellowCats before. Once they finally applied what I shared, within 30 days, their 4th YC weighed in at a hefty 62.4#. Even bass fishermen come over to the Catfish section to get the Calendar, as they also like to catch YCs. It also seems I am due in Egypt sometime this year (2024). It will probably be in the late Fall or early Winter though, due to many roof repairs that need to be taken care of first. OK, let's get started. A Happy New Years early!!!

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] January 2024 (12-30-23 Sat. AM-2): Hyper-Jump link for 2024--- < https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/14941548/1> Don't be shy, post your pic or pics with a brief or good story, whether with conjunction of the Catfish Calendar or not. Briefs on Ukraine, wife Elena, daughter Helen, and here at home- Helen's doctors still are in question as to her low hemoglobin. Plus Russia stepped up its hits to Ukraine with over 122 this past day Friday (12-29-23) or past 1.5 days. Elena is still researching where to get her operation, Ukraine, Turkey, Unsure as Egypt, and even possibly Germany. And due to Ukraine striking another battleship off Crimea, Russia has upstepped their war campaiugn. This only makes it unsafer for Elena to go to Ukraine for a few days, They even shelled a maternity ward. And of course, puts daughter Helen in more danger in Bucha just WNW of Kiev across the bridge Ukraine had to blow to prevent Russian entry intyo Kiev. As to here on the homefront, it seems I am plagued with roof repairs (about 6 areas). If you were to get up on ours, it is like a football field up there. OK, as of the 1st, I will be knocked off of dial-up here at home, so I am dispatching January & February 2024 early just to be sure you get it. I will sort of be out of pocket until I can get another internet access going out here, but not sure for how long. 2024 brings us Leap Year, which means 29 days in February. One more fishing day. In case you did not know, we are due for a total solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024 Wednesday at a curvature running from Maine down thru Texas (as cities along totality), which includes Dallas & Austin, and just maybe us here in Bryan-College Station too. I was trying to look at the graph & figure it out. Here's your calendar for January 2024 ... The YC days are the hardest pull for that day of the calendar, as to the 4 possible 'sigs" of mine [YC/BC/BFT/ZIP]. Here is the KEY ... Lynn’s Catfish Calendar [LCC]- 2022 KEY: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ YC = YellowCat // BC = BlueCat // BFT = Buffet (assorted) // ZIP = Zip (not very good) Tip- Always bait out lines the night before a YC or BC day. Tip- Gator Gars (GG) run ahead of YellowCats, so bait out late (between 11 PM to 1 AM). Tip- BlueCats also bite good on YC days, but you can rack ‘em up on BC days. Tip- Some variations or alterations are due to weather or other external influences. Tip- For Rod-n-Reelers, use Solunar Tables (etc.) also for best times with my calendar. Tip- Near Full Moon, Gator Gars & YellowCats seem to feed a few hours later. Tip- Your biggest YellowCats may hit best towards beginning & end of YC or PYC days. Tip- My PYC Days keys in on the YellowCat’s Feed/Roam Days Underlying Pattern. Tip- Bleedover works both ways- Before & After a calendar day. Take advantage. Tip- For better luck on ZIP days, try a stimulant (not natural) type bait, such as stink/punch/dough. Tip- In my experiences, it seems ChannelCats (CC) bite best for me, on BFT days. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Happy New Year!!! Be Safe & Stay Warm!!!

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] February 2024 (12-30-23 Sat. AM-3): I forgot mention in January's calendar posting that Dave asked on several things concerning the Calendar & such. He ran jugs. I shared about Bleedover & how to bump up your volume. Just for one outing, see his post (separately & also on the Catfish Calendar. In fact, for some, here are a few briefs & pics if you missed them or never have. Dave's neighborhood started calling him "Catfish" as well due to his volume brought home, while still in Texas. #3621390 - 11/14/16 11:13 AM Meat haul oklahomadave Green Horn Hey Lynn, even though I moved to Oklahoma, I continue to to use you calendar. I baited my jugs on the afternoon of the 10th and made a meat haul on the 11th. These fish were taken at Ft Cobb Lake in Oklahoma. 20 jugs with 2 hooks per jug, pulled just once. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ he posted this also on TFF to the forum- Had 20 jugs with 2 hooks each. Baited out on the afternoon of 10 Nov and pulled them just once on the morning of the 11th. Brought home 21 nice fish. Released the big one and six small ones. Also had 4 jump the hook when pulling them in. 32 fish on 40 hooks. Fresh chicken breast and Dead Red. BTW I've been using Lynn's Catfish Calendar for 5 years now. <http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11941303/Re:_Meat_Haul#Post11941303> OR < http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/11941303/1> +++++++++++ Then there is "millertimeatthelake" who has also become a pro of the Calendar & PYC days, who also posted some pics on the calendar thread in 2018, I think. OK, I took care of you for the first 2 months into 2024. I should be upstairs working, but it still is quite chilly & besides, I managed to get those items up for you. If needed, I can be reached via "E-dress" sat <HLYNNH@peoplepc.com> as I will be dropping by my sister's (in town) about every 2 to 3 days as she has city cable company Wi-Fi.
But I am limited to U-10 (2021 HP laptop) and am trying to find time to figure out Windows 10 & loss of my programs (so-called Apps now) that I have on U-6 (XP)& U-9 (WIN 7) at home. PPC (now owned by Earthlink, is shutting down dial-up (trickle dial) & the phone company has fiber optic cable, but is on the opposite side of the state highway here in the country & will not run it across unless they pay a hefty price to the state or county. So I am stuck with getting satellite internet.
Last year I had one company come out but several places were not good due to the "forest". But I finally found a spot & am hoping for results to finaly get higher speeds. So, sadly, instead of fishing for catfish, I have to fish for internet connection.
All I can say, is get out there & Catfish wehen you can. I am hoping I might get one more shot at "The Giant" somewhere between March & May, but I will have to get one of the motors running, or get another little one (a $200 3.5 HP no-name on Amazon like Eric & Troy did recently). As paddling out to where "The Giant" roams, takes up to an hour or less in the 12 footer, but about an hour+ in he 14 footer.
Have a good one until then!!!

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] March 2024 (3-3-24 Sun. AM):
Apologies, as we had a family get together Sunday & I forgot to post March. Then I forgot to add the RTF March Calendar on my thumb drive to slot it in on Tuesday night, so finally getting it done on Thursday night (3-7-24.
I can't say it's been fun, as it has not. I have been delayed getting internet, as I try to get a special cubby area ready for a satellite dish up on the 2nd floor balcony beside the "TreeHouse" as my Uncle called it. It originally started as a the frame from an upstairs clubhouse (playhouse), I had built on stilts where we lived in town before moving to the country in 1994. From it, I built my Daughter a room. Then I added a room with a bathroom at a corner angle. My Uncle added an upper roof & extended it out about 10 feet further for a balcony that he could hunt from or just relax. I realized that from this, it has a view of a satellite (that is towards the south) without tree obstruction. If there might be, I only have two trees to take out, but I think it will be OK as is.
And to top it off, I had the van konk out on January 8th. I finally got the Metro back on the road January 25th. And I finally envisioned (due to less pressure since getting the Metro running, as to having to depend on rides from my Daughter & Sister the night of) something I had not thought of, as to the van problem of not starting. A few years before my Uncle James (fishing partner) passed away in January 2020, he had a grey two wire extension wire run down to the starter. In fact, my Son-in-law was the one that wired it down below. But he could not recall why or to exactly what it was attached to. He was thinking James had a problem & did it because of that. My wonder- was it for troubleshooting purposes or to bypass something. The wires were up around the battery. I finally realized on January 7th that I could visualize an angle I initially missed. The two wires were actually clipped together with a male & female slide terminals. I had tried both to the positive, and also one on positive & the other negative. But that did not worked. So I recut the wires & wired them together on Sunday January 28th & cranked the Chrysler van right up. So, either he was rerouting another wire to the alternator jumping to the positive cable (connected up by the battery), or he was bypassing a problem in one of the 3 computer boxes. He was a supertech in electronics & electrical avenues, so he knew exactly how to remedy or get around the problem, but did not exactly fix whatever the problem was. A rat had chewed one wire in two that Saturday night, as there was signs of one being in the engine compartment, in two places.
And then we had our share of really cold weather & rainy weekends, which hampered or delayed my work upstairs to get back online. Just maybe, when I get it going, then I can turn to the boat motors, and get at least one fishing trip in before the summer heat hits again. James had gotten a trailer hitch installed so we could haul my cousin's boat, so we could once again do some lake fishing out of Running Branch Marina on Lake Limestone. Sadly, he did not make it, but I acquired the van from my cousin, and hope to sort of fulfill James' hopes & wishes.
I will be over at my Sister's this afternoon to send this, to get on the internet. We are having a "Moving Thank You" lunch today for helping them move out during July & moving in the first weekend of November, into their double or triple wide new mobile home in town. They live on the town side off of Tabor Road (FM 974) off TX 21, while I am out of town off of the end of Tabor Road (FM 974), just off TX 21, 15 to 16 miles apart by TX 21. Much, much further if you take Tabor Road. Sadly for those who come from town using a GPS, it will send you out here via the long route, not TX 21.
Updates in Brief: Daughter Helen is OK, but Russia has stepped up attacks in Ukraine.
Elena had to travel to Tbilisi, Georgia (she had made friends there back in 2022) and had to have a medical operation (Feb. 23rd) of which would have been under par in Egypt. She was released to her hotel room on the 27th. Then came back for follow-up & release on Thursday & headed to the airport & was back in Hurghada, Egypt about 2:30 AM Egypt time on Friday March 1st. She is OK, but still feeling about 50/50.
As for me, I just got thru replacing the 4 torn & battered corrugated fiberglass sheets for corrugated tin on the "High Top" Saturday afternoon, where the satellite will be installed below. I call it the High Top, because even though it is for the second story, it is much higher. When you get up on the high end & look down over on the lower first floor roof, you almost get the sense you might be up about 3 stories not 2 stories high. I was hoping to do most of it from 8 & 10 foot ladders, but finally decided to do it from the top. Very slippery up there & had one point of sliding down as I was on the corner of two loose sheets. I had to scramble off of them, to keep from heading off & onto the Foyer roof. And my Granddaughter was calling to check on me every 20 to 25 minutes. This section also had my Uncle slipping here, enough to where I had to come around & above him, to help pull him back up. He was losing ground, if you knoiw what I mean. Anyways, finally I am getting closer to getting back online out here.
Solar Eclipse: Also, April 8th is coming up as to the solar eclipse running at a slight diagonal thru Texas. Waco is noted as about in the centerline of that width of passing. Shane McAuliffe (hope I got that spelled correctly) of the TV show "The Texas Bucket List" said they will be in West, Texas (just above Waco) at the Slovacek store there for the Solar Eclipse, so I guess if you can't get to an area for full effects, he may show a snip possibly on one of these following Saturday nights- April 13th or 20th. Be sure to get approved solar eclipse glasses to protect your eyes. Some are bogus out there & could cost your eyesight. There is an article on it in "Texas Co-Op Power" March 2024 issue just received by certain electrical utility customers across the state.
For those who might be fishing at the time, either in its actual width pass, or other than that, I hope to see your feedback if the fishing picked up or tapered down & what it did after it was over.

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] April 2024 (3-30-24 Sat. AM):
Updates in Brief: Daughter Helen is OK, but Russia has stepped up even more attacks in Ukraine, as well as Kiev.
Elena is still recovering slowly from her operation. However, a new unwanted pet has appeared in her apartment & from what she says, it has a bark.
As for me, between the regular day job & other projects, not much Lynn time to spare. I did manage to whack down trees & brush in the past 2 weeks (finally, as no rain) to help get a clear shot south for internet satellite reception. We'll hope that will get it.
Solar Eclipse: If'n anybody decides to go "dark" on April 8th, Catfishing that is. Be sure & post about your experience, before, during & after.

Here's the KEY...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
High hopes I will be back online this month at home, Meanwhile, Take Care, Have Fun, Be Safe!!!

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] May 2024 (5-5-24 Sun. PM):
Greetings for Cinco de Mayo!
OK, I think we have had enough rain. STOP already! It is starting to mimic that wet spring of 1979, high water everywhere for like 2+ months worth. Lot of memories, umm, very wet memories.
It was back on this day 5-5-2018 also a Sunday, 6 years back, that I found "The Giant" was still well & alive & still treading his path/trail when I unexpectedly had him on my trotline once again. It was not until I looked around & realized I was right in his normal path, that I did not have about a 60+ pounder, but once again, "The Giant" & I was right over him, but in a 12 footer. Realizing the gravity of it being able to roll me over, I grasp the dire situation/ Only in thrusting upward, he thrust downward. The race was on. Only to find that he or me, snapped the size 36 green nylon leader line just above the hook. I was thinking it was solid braid, but it was the cheaper & weaker braided with the core in it. I am thinking it was a Mustad SS "J" style 9/0 stump hook. They have a short shank & do not give. He took the hook. My 4/0 SS barrel swivel held, but the leader line cord did not. The main line was also the same size 36 but 3 strand. So I now have size 96 and some size 72 ready for him. I forget if I now have those SS 4/0 or 6/0 (SS coated brass).
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen is still OK, but sometimes it is off to the shelter due to continued air strikes on Kiev. Loss of sleep sometimes.
Elena is better as her stitches/scar still give her trouble (they said no exercise for 6 months), and it has already started heating up over there im Egypt.
As for me, a second attempt at HughesNet failed. First time was about 2 or 3 years ago. However, my sister finally came up with an idea. When they stayed here from August into November last year waiting on their new home to come in & get set up, after trial & error, they were able to use their HotSpot to get on the internet, most of the time. So I decided I am tired of cutting down trees & having to constantly to comply with new rules (at least for HughesNet). I got another cell phone from Family Mobile at Wal-Mart (Nokia C-110 or C-1110), a $50 unlimited card (but only 30GB HotSpot), and an extra $10 for extended two year warranty totaling almost $108 up front, then about $50 or less after that per month. It would have been $65 first month if I had gotten satellite, then more the 2nd month & months 13-24 would have jumped even more. If you recall, I am in Dead Zone Central. It took us quite some time to get it connected in town. Then I barely got on Thursday night, and never could after that. Saturday May 4th I finally searched for the right spot in the Living Room that would get a signal. Finally, I found it. Fingers crossed. So far it has worked. With Elena out of the woods on her operation & no more spending time on trying for a satellite, I just might have time to get a good fishing trip in at the lake. And just maybe, catch "The Giant". But I've got to work on motors, or at least the small one, so I can get the 14 footer out to "The Giant's" Path or trail, as paddling took forever in a 14 footer, compared to the 12 footer. I can zoom in a 12 footer paddling. Besides, it is a No Wake Zone. Of course the bigger Blues are down at the corner, which is quite aways out there. I helped set out a trotline for my cousin near the path/trail of "The Giant" & he was amazed at how many that line caught, so I might put it in that area for Blues & Channels.
'Nuff Said.

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] June 2024 (6-14-24 Fri. PM):
Apologies for the delay!!! and again, as I could not get back on the internet to post this & decided to try again Saturday AM.
We had set the family fish fry for Sunday, June 9th about 3:30 PM. Sadly we had something else going on, which I'll touch on here in a second.
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen is OK, but there are still trips to the bomb shelter which really messes up your sleep pattern. It was raining two days ago.
Elena said it was heating up in Egypt. It is a little cooler in the Hurghada area, compared to Cairo. I think she said Cairo was to be about 59 C one day. If that is correct, 120 F is 50 C. They say that at the pyramids there, beside Cairo, it gets to 140 F during the summer, because it is on the side of the desert. So when I go, somewhere between the end of October thru the end of February 2025, it will be cooler. Obviously that range must be the tourist season.
As for me, I do have internet via a hotspot on a separate phone just for that. I have it sitting in a spot in the living room that can squeeze a connection most of the time, out here in dead zone central. Here & there, I have to shut down the laptop U-10 & the phone to reboot & get the connection again
My son-in-law's clan did not make it to the fish fry. This was due to his step-Dad, a fisherman, who within the past week was having more difficulties with memory, directions & such. He decided to head up to a lake (not sure exactly where this one was). The family was busy trying to locate him. I fried all the fish I had gotten ready & we sent the rest so the family would have food, as it seemed he for sure was confused & lost. He & his truck disappeared Saturday evening. Not sure when it was realized he was gone, without telling anyone. With no word from him, they tried his cell phone but no response. They called some store near the lake. It seems he had made it there, but had recently been back a few times asking directions which indicates he was confused & lost. He was also on heart medication & they were not sure what how much he had taken with him. Law officials were called in to assist in finding/locating him & his pickup. He was either spotted on camera somewhere in Granbury or had used his gas card Sunday evening. And the last camera sighting was in Midland near 1 PM Monday. Then nothing on Tuesday until about 8 PM. Sadly, his body was discovered by a jogger. But no pickup anywhere. The statewide search was suspended for him Wednesday morning, but did not announce a reason (either because of family notifications or due to his pickup not being found, or both. They finally discovered his truck, sometime Wednesday. It was stuck about a mile away. He obviously had gotten out & tried walking (with his limp), until very tired or dehydrated, or both.
So it has been a very trying week. I have not gone thru & refrozen all of the excess catfish I had thawed out. And have had no spare time to post the Catfish Calendar. I had 6 burners going (2 double burner Camp Chef setups & 2 single fryers. I'll share a little about the fry later. We'll miss Troy's fishing stories. We hope that he did get his final wish, to fish one more time before moving on to his next assignment.

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] July 2024 (7-4-24 Thurs. PM):
Happy Independence Day (4th of July)!!!
Remember it is about freedom!
OOPS! Thank goodness I did not give you the full July calendar yet. In compiling the July post, I realized something was amiss in the moon phases. It was two phases off. As I looked closer, I found I utilized by accident the July 2023 glimpse ahead. I obviously opened the 2023 folder by accident to get that. So the only thing it affected was the Prelim portion and sadly the July 4th Holiday outlook. This is the first time in all of my years I did something like this. Your corrected Prelim (Preview) is down below. The June calendar posted was correct, as I definitely decided to backtrack. When I do the Preview, I go back into the yearly folder separately later & obviously went into the 2023 instead of 2024.
The monthly posts run me up to about 2 hours, or so, to compile, as I go back & forth trying to make sure the data is correct, sometimes more. I don't tend to do that on the Preview. I will now though.
I have not had a chance to give you fish fry stats, as to what grease was used, etc. There just never seems to be enough time. And now since rain has tapered off (Hold that thought!), it has started turning up the heat.
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen is OK, as best I know. Still, air raid sirens & trips t the shelter shatters normal life, as well as good sleep. She sold her apartment last August & had her rent in another apartment in the same building paid up thru August (this year). She has been starting to try & start up a business, but due to events, it is a challenge.
Elena said a few hours ago by phone that her electricity was out, meaning no fan or electricity, as well as running water. If it gets too hot, you take a shower, if of course you had running water. Possibly no internet, as I think she has a router in the apartment. Luckily she checked my email before electricity went off. We got cut off of Skype due to a problem on her end. We are scrambling to find a program which allows free texting 9aka SMS) back & forth (USA & Egypt).
As for me, I have off for 4 days. Yeah! And I decided not to go fishing. You know why? I got dehydrated & sick from last year's brief overnight trip just down the road on the river with family, as I went despite the heat & high humidity. I went to work the next day, but within an hour or so, I left for home to recover. I had lost 5 to 8 pounds in that 24 to 36 hour period of the trip.
We had a Celebration of Life for Troy, senior last week. The family is slowly recovering from that ordeal.
If you are out there fishing, believe me, stay hydrated. But they also say, do not over-hydrate, as well.

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] August 2024 (8-3-24 Sat. Late PM):
I still have not had a chance to give you fish fry stats (background data), as I am constantly on the go, researching other items. Or falling asleep doing it, as the heat sometimes does its toll up at work in the shop. We call our fans- "our oxygen bottles" that we carry around where we are working. And I have a saying, "Once it hits 98, they just blow hot air."
I will say, in brief, I used 10 tubs of grease (shortening that is a mixture of animal fats & veggies). That was two tubs of the round plastic containers they come in. It was HCF (Hill Country Fare brand) from HEB. I used GV (Great Value brand) from Wal-Mart for the crinkle cut fries & mini tater tots. No hush puppies, as they do not always cook correctly in the center deep-frying them. In fact, HCF no longer has the bullet (torpedo) shaped ones I used to use from 2000 to 2011. They fried up just right. I had 6 burners running (way too many for one person), as I was constantly having to adjust burners up & down. I had 5 cast iron dutch ovens going for fish (Kroger Delta Pride catfish filets, caught BC & CC, Kroger Flounder, and GV (Wal-Mart) Tilapia going). And a 6th pot, which was a larger aluminum one for the fries & mini tots.
The reason for the grease with animal fats (mix), is that they are the same listings as Mrs. Tucker's & BakeRite (as I saved their labels from previous fish fry-s. The GV was slightly different on one of the numbers (or percentages). In comparison to the pure veggie type grease, is that the animal fats can cook at a higher temperature, fry much qwikker & therefore, the oil/grease, is not absorbed into it as much. Which makes way, for a crisper outside batter, tender, but not too oily inside. My uncle told me my grandmother used Mrs. Tucker's when she cooked on her cast iron stove (which I now have). She could make that sing, as me & my sister used to hang right beside it, awaiting her cooked goodies. Perfection!!! What can I say!!!
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen is OK, but Kiev, Bucha, and Irpin got struck pretty hard this past week by Russia. About 2 weeks ago, she was injured in an auto accident, as the sirens went off & people panicked, slamming on the brakes in their cars. Panic never does any good. She had a headache, butt x-rays revealed no damage, just a sprained neck or bump on the head. She is OK now.
Elena seems to have her electricity going off & on during the day, a well as water. Not sure if it her building, or in general for her area, as to Egypt's supply. Very hot in July there. She is on the top 5th floor & she said you can feel the heat of her apartment walls (inside). She now has a pedestal fan, in addition to the A-C which can't keep up.
As for me, go, go, go, but never enough time. New Tracker 1236 (12 foot aluminum jon boat) coming soon. I'll be giving the 2017 AlumaCraft to Eric & Kristina, so they'll have a legal boat to run their new boat motor (Eric & Troy's). They got tired of paddling back & forth on the river, in the hot summer days.
Got my "papers" in the other day. Referring to an email notice of our 50th High School Reunion next year (BHS Class of 1975). Just went to a lunch/meeting today at Longhorn Tavern SteakHouse in Bryan. It has been set for April 26th, 2025. I should be back from Egypt by then. Oh, maybe you did not know, but it seems I am to be in Egypt for a bit in the first of 2025 (when its cooler). That is the reason Elena went there, for our rendezvous I told her of about 5 or so years ago. It seems I have work related to do with the Great Pyramid. So you thought I only researched Catfish. I must have 200 books around in the living room near U-10 laptop desk. I have not had a chance to build a rolling bookshelf cart (but already have the boards).

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] September 2024 (9-7-24 Sat. AM/PM):
I planned to try & do the Catfish Calendar Friday evening, but I kept falling asleep at the wheel (keyboard). About 5:10 AM I headed for bed. I should have done that after the TV Weather news, bobbing in and out of sleep cycles. But too tired to get up out of the captain's chair in the living room. Until after 5 AM.
Been a whirlwind at work. I worked until after 9 PM Thursday night, trying to finish an out of town job, so they could take it out Friday AM. So I got off early Friday as I had my 46 hours in. And what did I do, became a zombie. I planned to try & do the Catfish Calendar Friday evening, but I kept falling asleep at the wheel (keyboard) in the living room. About 5:10 AM I headed for bed. I should have done that after the TV Weather news back at 10:30 PM, bobbing in and out of sleep cycles. But too tired to get up out of the captain's chair in the living room, until after 5 AM. And here it is now Sunday just after 2 AM trying to finish up.
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen is still in the war zone in Bucha, just outside to the ENE of Kiev. Due to the Ukrainians invading Russia, Russia has fired more missiles and drones into Kiev. Luckily, she was able to get Western Union funds Friday (with or without problems). When the sirens sounds, it means incoming from the air & may be coming for you. When the sirens sound, the banks close (stop transactions). Later this afternoon (Saturday), Elena said Helen is in the shelter with others from her building.
Speaking of Ukraine, they may be getting a breather soon, as Russia ia about to have problems on their southeastern side with China. You see, there is a prophecy by 5 sources that speak of this upcoming conflict. I am hoping it will draw Russia away from Ukraine. Sadly though, China may advance farther than Russia. They come from Nostradamus (by way of J.R. Jochmans), Josep Terelya (a Mother Mary visionary Catholic), Dannion Brinkley (3 time NDEer), "Keys of Enoch" book by J.J. Hurtak, and Jeane Dixon in her biography by Renee Noorbergen (might be mispelled). About 7 or so online news stories this past month indicates it is about to unfold between now & mid 2025. If so, be looking for Chinese tanks moving in & several quakes behind them that come from the core of the earth. Well there is no "if", just a matter of when.
Elena is having to shift to another apartment due to her landlady deciding to sell the one she is in. She has until the 22nd to find another one in Hurghada. I told her to get one in a better neighborhood, as wild dogs roam in this one & you have to run out of the building to your taxi, before they get you. It seems they innoculate them, plastic tag them, but do not take them off the streets. It looks like I will get over there sometime in the first three months in Egypt for 2 to 3 weeks. I won't have to pay for a hotel, Unless I am at the Giza Plateu for awhile, then I/we may have to. I have work related to the GP (Great Pyramid) there, and the Sphinx. You see, I don't just do the Catfish Calendar & work a day job at the Cabinet company. Back in the late 1990s, one web publisher for a magazine stated publicly that I was like "a researcher on steroids". But of course, I don't take steroids. This is the reason Elena went to Egypt, as I had stated we might rendezvous there in a few years. She did not forget.
As for me, Well, Well!!! I finally got wind Wednesday (August 14th) or Thursday (15th), the new Tracker 12 footer came in on Tuesday (13th), so I scrambled to get ready to head for Waco Saturday early AM (17th) to go pick it up. The reason I went for Waco, instead of New Braunsfels, was less than half the distance & my other reason was no Dickey's Pit Barbecue in site around New Braunsfels. But 2 were in Waco. You see, we lost our Dickey's here before the COVid-19 hit (a year or 2 before). We found one over in Willis. And hit Red Lobster's All you can eat shrimp special in October 2020 for a Saturday lunch, and stopped by Willis on the way back from Conroe to pick up supper, along with about 5 or 6 bottles of Dickey's sauce (barbecue). The franchise owner here said once when I commented on it, that people like their Bar-B-Q, but LOVE their sauce. In actuality, I want both, as I was raised on hickory smoke by my Dad. Mesquite makes me belch up to a day later. Anyways, I took the van, the platform from the Metro (to put on the luggage rack) that I had made for the AlumaCraft, and two 50' packages of 1/4" nylon solid braided (diamond) rope (used 1.5 of them to make sure it would cruise fine). I guess you could say that was my fishing gear for this trip. I tried to not go over 65 MPH coming back & it worked great. I used 1/8th of a tank up there & 1/4 of a tank back with it. Cost of fuel $30 (10 gallons, so 3.33 up there & 6.67 back). Dickey's cost was over $40 for 3 sandwiches (lunch, next day's supper, and 1 for my sister. Plus 1 large cup & a small cup. Yes, two drinks so I could add two more cups to my Dickeys cup collection. I did that in 2020 too. Sadly, they either don't sell in stores anymore or that one, as to the bottles of their sauce. One of the guys there, made a few extra containers to take home. I got two left. So I will have to check online to see if available. My sister said there is a new Dickeys down in Brenham, so it is only about 55 miles away, as per Waco 85 miles, from the house, as I am about 16 miles outside of the East ByPass 6 (now called Rudder Freeway) in Bryan. So, I caught a big one-my new boat.
OK, in case you did not know, things change. Let me explain, but first, I forget, this was Marine land Boating in Robinson (outer portions of Waco). And one of the salesman was an old schoolmate of Bryan High- Alan Wichoski. Jeremy turned the sale over to Allan because of that just before I came to get the boat. Very friendly folks, in the front & in the back. So Allan & I got to catch up a little on our lives. He is hoping to make the reunion next year in April. OK, things change. My 2017 AlumaCraft 12' flat bottom was purchased at Academy for a mere $620 plus tax. I did the title bit later at TPW, which adds to its ticket price. I put in on my debit card there. In case you did not know, AlumaCraft sold to another company, it seems about the pandemic years. And, if they sell 12 foot aluminums flat bottoms, I never found any. I did run across some 10 footers but who knows they may be leftovers that have not found a home. I forget, but they were over a $1000 if I recall. But they do still make AlumaCraft, but in larger boats & motor packages. It also seems that MonArk no longer is around possibly by the pandemic (???). But Tracker is still making aluminum flat bottoms, including the 12 footer, as I wanted a small river boat, adaptable to such terrain. Tracker, like MonArk, are much sturdier and deeper & wider (as we had to knock off one of my side blocks on my platform, so it would fit). There were about 4 or 5 assisting in putting it on top of my van, so you can surely say they are there for their customer's assistance. I could have done it, but it would have taken me a tad longer, due to it being wider. Also the weight. AlumaCraft was about 107 pounds, The Tracker is about 127/128 pounds, plus it has welded frame & seats. The only rivets are internal. Plus it came with oar locks, as the AlumaCraft did not, so I ordered from Amazon & installed them. It also has two handles on the front, instead of the traditional single one (AlumaCraft only had one). Also, I had intentionally flipped the platform in reverse. As I had a 2x4 flat added to tilt up the AlumaCraft for the Metro, as it impaired your windshield vision, if just on the platform flat. By doing so (reversing it), this caused the front to tilt down, instead of up, helping to cut wind resistance. It worked. As noted, I cruised at 65 MPH with no difference than 60 or 55.
OK, it seems Tracker has a program with dealers every year, of a set selling price & a set delivery fee. For 2024 & the new 2025 models (mine is the new 2025 model), it was $1395 for the boat & $75 for the freight making it a base of $1470. There was a Prep fee of $100 from the dealer. But then we get to a change that TPW has done. Now, when you purchase a boat from a dealer, it is required (in Texas) that you go ahead & register it and pay all title, taxes, and documentation fees up front. In other words, you are now paying for it all up front. You even get a stiff cardboard placard with your new registration numbers on, to which they (TPW) will mail the new stickers & title to you. I do not know if you just carry it in your boat or try to post it somewhere visible. But obviously, from my understanding, you are now "street" legal, be it lake or river. Obviously, they found a way to get their money up front. So, also realize this is CASH price. With the fees & taxes, it ran over $1850. Ah, but we aren't finished. A lot of places now charge a 3% fee on using a card, regardless if a credit card, debit card, or pre-paid card. Total cost about $1946. A lot do not realize the cost of credit, but Visa takes a chunk from the seller, which either mmakes them raise prices to cover it, or to cover the fee by tacking on the "card" fee. One instance is when you use another bank's ATM. You are using their ATM & their money to make your transaction, so in essence, you are renting, to which they need to cover expenses.
Anyway, a few dollars more than I planned, but I got a sturdier boat than the AlumaCraft, a little wider, a little deeper, welded frame, so no leaking rivets, and much stabler. Plus I've already gone thru with the title & registration stuff, so, I am happy. When I got home, I parked the van, as it was heating up about 2 PMish. I came back out & got the boat off by myself. I called the clan to come look at it on Sunday AM (18th) after they got back from the river fishing from the bank & bring the pickup. They came down, I got pictures taken with both boats, and they loaded up the AlumaCraft to take up front. It's now Eric & Kristina's (daughter & son-in-law). I told Elena what the end price was & I figured she might get upset, but she said she had already estimated it would probably be about $2000. So she was thrilled. I was much more at ease. So, here's to the future! This boat should last a good 30 years of more. My Dad's Elgin from Sears was bought new in 1962 & was stolen from the river about 1.5 miles from here in August 1999. I had a 3/8" chain and a brand new Master lock on it. It leaked, but you could run back & forth in it easily, it was that stable. Allan said he thinks I should be able to stand up in it easily without problems.
And yes, I still am thinking of going for "The Giant" in my future rigging of this Tracker "Tadpole 1236" (12' long x 36" wide). I just need to acquire a cheap kayak from Academy & 2 beams to set up my "pontoon outrigger", so I can hoist "The Giant" up between the two without worry of him rolling me & the boat over. If you recall (long ago), I talked to a Game Warden about my "Planter" design of trotlines to be put anywhere on a lake & he saw no problems with it. That was in the early to mid 1980s. It finally was first done in July 2002 on Lake Limestone (chosen for Phase 2 of the Catfish Calendar Research). And modified in 2003/2004. Sometimes it just takes awhile to manifest your plans. With this one, you even have to wonder about the 14 foot MonArk, would it roll over with this one, as "The Giant" runs like a tractor in granny gear.
Almost forgot, Eric & Troy went half & half on a boat motor from Amazon last year & got to try it out last year once with the AlumaCraft. Now they have that boat to utilize it further. And I just ordered the same motor from Amazon, a Yadad 3.5 HP. and it is to be here next week. As you recall, we had not one but two motors with problems last year in our April & May excursions. It seems Bryan Outboard no longer does motor repairs for possibly 20 years (he said 24 years, but I had the Evinrude in there in 2003/2004), and Bryan Marine finally closed their doors in the past 2 years, so we no longer have a place in Bryan or College Station that works on boat motors. Allan is supposed to get back to me on suggestions, as they don't work on these two motors-- 1988 25 HP Evinrude or the 2002/2003 3.5 HP Johnson there. Who knows, parts may not be available or too hard to get. We shall see.
I paused and may have to pause again before completing this. Oh, the boat motor was coming from NJ, and is already in Hutchins, TX. I p/u a gas jug for it yesterday at Harbor Freight (HFT). Not sure of the mixture ratio it will use yet.
That reminds me, I still have to get a fish scale capable of about 200 pounds that can be certified. Last time I sent 3 to be certified over in Bastrop. The 600# & the other 150 to 300# did not cut it (they both failed). But the 60# did (got certified). Well, that one won't cut it for "The Giant".

Lynn's Catfish Calendar [LCC] October 2024 (10-4-24 Fri. PM):
Whew! Seems like work never ends. Finally, a little cooler weather.
Updates in Brief:
Daughter Helen has finally decided to apply for a job, as trying to start a business in Ukraine currently is not feasible.
Wife Elena is still looking for another apartment. And still problems with electricity & water outages
As for me, 24 hours never seems to be enough. Yadao 3.5 HP motor came in. Was slightly damaged on the plastic head covering (shell). I had to write to get proper fuel/oil ratio. Manual said 20-25:1, yet mixing jug stated 35:1. They said go by the manual. We were going for next weekend to Running Branch, but it seems everybody's calendar is not cooperating. So I threw in another possible weekend that maybe we can all go on- November 8th/9th and 10th. Sadly, I got scammed on the "Giant stabilizer" (a clearance kayak). It was a mirror spoof site. I even checked to see if the company was legit. I was just informed two days ago that they have had problems & have filed police reports & PayPal, as well as cybercrime officials. I guess I begin the search for another one. Plus I need to finally assemble my HFT trailer & set it up for a boat. I got it around Thanksgiving back in 2017 (just before I got the AlumnaCraft in early 2018), but never pulled it out of the box & assembled it. But if it has a fair chance for rain, I'll pass on this trip. May 2023 Mothers Day Trip was not only a washout (due to rain, lightning, very low blood pressure, and both motors down), paddling the 14 foot MonArk out & back from the Giant's area was no fun. Had it been a 12 footer, it would have been do-able. We shall see how it goes. If not, there is after I return from Egypt.

Here's the KEY: Lynn’s Catfish Calendar [LCC]- 2022 KEY: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ YC = YellowCat // BC = BlueCat // BFT = Buffet (assorted) // ZIP = Zip (not very good) Tip- Always bait out lines the night before a YC or BC day. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My apologies for slow response, as I am working 4 days a week (10 hour days) in my day job & doing other projects in the 3 day weekend, so I am stretched pretty thin. I kept falling asleep while writing this.
OK, what do need to know? My Catfish Calendar is mainly for Yellows, Blues, and Gator Gars. I did not research CC (Channels) or MC (MudCats aka Bullheads)..
I post the KEY every so often, or note which month to back up to.
There are 4 main "SIGs". They are as follows: YC = YellowCats BC = BlueCats BFT = Buffet (a mix) ZIP = Poor or NONE
PYC days are separate from the Calendar days, to clarify
I share that the Catfish Calendar seems to be based on a roam-feed circuit switch. In other words, it is Nature's way of kicking them out of the house to go roam for food.
I also note that my estimate is that most (the majority) follow this pattern, being between 66% to 75%. The others, ranging from 25% to 33%" are what I call "rogue". They dance to a different beat or pattern
In comparison, it is like 3 work shifts of people. Most work the day shift 8 AM to 4 PM. Night shift runs 4 PM to 12 AM. And the Graveyard shift runs from 12 AM to 8 AM. So, most Cats run the main work day. The Rogues work the other two shifts. Now, I am using this as an analogy, it is not that the fish run those certain times. It is just to illustrate that most (the 66% to 75%) run this pattern & the others run the rogue (the least work shifts).
There is also what I refer to as PYC days. These are my Personal YellowCat Days according to the pattern I discovered. In general, it is an off 7, on 2, off 7, on 2, off 7, on 3, then repeats, but there is a slight variation, so I have to adjust those days according to my experience with the calendar. I first discovered this pattern back in 1981. I had been taught by one YellowCat teacher in 1979, and another one in 1980. However, even with all their knowledge, I was still not catching any more fish, including YellowCats.
That is, until 1981, of which in March I started working for The Western Company. After all the training, I & a few got transferred into Cementing division. Most of the Trainers did not know much about the Cementing division, just the Stimulation. We heard stories that Cementing guys were sometimes gone for days at a time. Yes, there were a few times like that, but not always. One job I got 72 hours in, and we never got to do the job, due to problems. We spent a lot of time in the drilling team's quarters. They even had their cooks cook meals for us.. Anyway, our days off pattern was those 2 days, then 2 days again, then 3 and back around again. I went fishing on those days off. It was Tues/Wed off, then the next Thurs/Fri, and finally the 3 day weekend- Sat/.Sun/Mon.
All of a sudden I started catching fish. And I started catching YellowCats. I would bait out my lines one day, come back the next & reap my rewards. One week, I caught a 28 # YC where my co-worker & 2nd YC instructor had caught a 35# YC, 2 19# YC & a slew of smaller ones, well over 100+ pounds worth. The following week (after catching the 28#), a friend's father & myself camped out on a gravel bed just below my trotline. I caught 5 Yellows that night, a 15# being the largest. Later I switched from the Brazos River upstream on TX21 to the Navasota River upstream from TX21. Again, I was catching other Cats, but especially YCs on my days off. So I figured i may have stumbled onto a pattern for Yellows. I decided to do some research. So I took off in 1982 to set up my plan of investigation. I had my flat bottom worked on. It was my Dad's 12 foot Elgin he bought from Sears for $70 in 1962. Very sturdy boat, deeper hull & rated for a 7 HP. I braced the center, the upper back corners & also had 3 straps attached to the transom. The reason- I bought a new Ward's Sea King by Chrysler 15 HP short stocky shallow shoal motor (47 pounds). A friend had loaned me his 7.5 HP Chrysler. At first I did not think much of it, but it ran good. Ward's had it (the 15 HP) for half price (about $800) & my brother-in-law put in on his account & I made the monthly payments on it. Running without gear, it would go 25 MPH, 20 MPH with gear. Very little wake, almost none. The water would hit somewhere between the center seat to halfway to the back seat. I even found if I was careful, I could go down the river sideways. Of course one error, well, had I ever messed up, it would have flipped at that speed.
The reason I braced it was I had twice the HP which was a lot of torque. Plus I realized you also had to take that into consideration with speed & steering (no fast turns).. I had it rewelded & patched here & there, plus a co-worker spray painted a deep metallic blue. So, I mapped out this calendar accordingly & was going to test it for 3 years. I chose the Trinity River 25 bends down from TX21 bridge. My first father-in-law had access to what they called "The Park" by way of a church member. For 3 years it was like a second home there. Actually 3 1/2 years, as I continued fishing their until April 1986. I started in Spring1983 and was going to run until 1985 Summer)
I confirmed for sure, the Calendar was correct as to the pattern I found for Yellows. And I also found a pattern for Blues, but was a little more erratic. And in the midst of that, I found that Gator Gars run the same day patterns as do YellowCats, but a few hours earlier. And in August 1983, my father-in-law went with me one foggy morning. It was a YC day and according to the pattern (PYC) as well. We were checking a throwline off on a big stump about 5 to 10 feet from the bank. It dropped qwik and was 15 to 18 feet there. He grabs the line & raises it up enough for me to grab. About that time, something dove & almost took me with it. I was in the middle of the back seat & got slid to the side and my arm was into the water. I made a split second decision not to let whatever caught me off guard over & out of the boat. So I let go & bobbed back up in my seat. We both looked at each & I said Wow! that was a big one. He grabbed the line again & this time I braced myself. Sadly it had gotten off & bent out the Eagle Claw 4/0 SS O'Shaunessy hook . We caught a couple of Blues & a Yellow on other lines that run, but was disappointed in losing the big one.
So, I figured it was a big Yellow, not a big Blue. So I baited out perch when I could. It kept bending hooks, so I kept using large ones. I finally set a diagonal trotline across the river in order to see if maybe I could catch it & have better leverage. I forget what size hook I had gone to but I was off on vacation for a week & had gotten a dozen big tilapia (or African perch) from Larry at the Bait Barn in Bryan. I, my first wife & a brother-in-law were baiting out headed towards the other side, putting those 12 big perch on the side that Big'Un resided on. About 2/3rds of the way across, the main line starts tugging fiercely and going up & down river. Ah, we got Big'Un so we backed up. She was boiling water trying to dive. Just before we got to it, it got off. But I stayed on it, always hitting on the YC days of the calendar as well as my PYC days (the underlying pattern). I had finally gotten up to 9/0 Eagle Claw SS O'Shaunessy hooks. We had July 4th off, so we checked the river at TX21. It was 6 inches low, and the water was clear. I decided I & my daughter would come back that weekend in July 1985 & try again. My daughter was just under 4 years old. Lo & behold, Sunday morning about 10 AM, we were checking the trotline & I had a few small Blues on the first few hooks, Then the big tug began. I think it was about the 7th hook out, but it was clear & at first it looked like a Blue, but as it was heading back & forth, I finally saw it was an Op, a spotted Yellow. It was the clear green color that made it look like a Blue.
In case you did not know, when Yellows are trying to get away, there are two patterns the will choose. One is a had dive. The other is they will run a figure 8 pattern. Because I knew that, and Big'Un was doing exactly that, I timed scooping the dipnet from right to left & come flying around to drop it right in the boat. We stayed that night & I staked her out. Monday morning we got to Madisonville & my father-in-law said let's go to some meat market there. They brought their slide scales out & we weighed it near the P/U. It was about 4 feet long. It's tail drug the bottom of the scale & it showed 59#. But the guy told me because its tail was on the scales, it should go at least 65#. I decided to just call it as 60# so nobody could claim I beefed up the numbers. Then we went to the Madisonville Meteor & they took a pic of me, Big'Un & my daughter. Big'Un (other pictures) were featured in the Bryan-College Station Eagle (along with a write-up on the story of the Big 'Un & my log books, but he did not mention my calendar. It was also featured in the Pictorial Press's Fish & Hunting Guide that Fall. (1985).
In my testing of the Calendar, I also found a few tips which I share in the KEY.
OK, so further, as to the Catfish Calendar, the 4 SIGs indicate which one is the strongest for that specific day. It may be a BFT day on the calendar, but if it is one of the PYC days, I will note it.
That was Phase 1 River Research. Phase 2 started the Lake Research in 2002 at Lake Limestone at Running Branch Marina, where i fished until T-Day Trip 2011. However, the lake was 10 feet low & I was having to use my sister's Porta-Bote (a portable fold-out vinyl v-hull. And I fell out of it down at the bottom of the lake, as I had to tote it some half mile out to water (or seemed like it).
After a 2 day hospital stay in early 2012, I finally returned briefly from 2013 to 2014 with the Porta-Bote. Then it tapered off until I got an AlumaCraft 12 foot flat bottom in early 2018 & had my last encounter with "The Giant" on May 5th, 2018. An even bigger Yellow, my estimate from 100# to 150# . As I jerked the size 36 leader line, it dove hard & snapped the leader & took the hook. I am thinking it was a Mustad triple strength 9/0 short J SS.
Phase 2 proved the Catfish Calendar also worked in lakes.
There are also further findings that for me, it seems I catch more Channels during BFT days. Now, as I said, I never researched ChannelCats, just an observation.
There is also Bleedover. In other words, the gates do not open at midnight, nor shut at the next Midnight for sure, like the day according to TPW , as to the daily Bag Limit (which is Midnight to Midnight). There can be up to about a 12 hour bleedover in front or after.
I suggest if you are going to fish during ZIP days to use an unnatural bait, such as a punch bait. See the KEY for more tips. I have found that Blues also bite real good on YC days. But on BC days, they bite even better. While the calendar does not specify exactly when during the day they bite the best, this is how running set lines can prove the most as to the calendars focus upon the strongest SIG for that day.
Take Dave for example. I taught him how to not only bait as you go into a calendar day, but use Bleedover to to your advantage. So he would set out juglines the night before, even if a ZIP day going into a BC day. And in the morning run the jugs with unbelievable results. His neighbors saw his change in results of his catches and started giving him nicknames related to "Catfish". He once posted his results on a lake with the pics of a pile of Blues on a table he & his fishing partner caught on one catch. Towards the end of his post, he let everyone know he used my calendar & noted further he had been using it for 6 years. So as you use it, you learn how best to work it, to your advantage.
I know of at least two guides that recognize the assistance of my calendar. By knowing what it shows, you adjust your strategy to maximize your results. One told me I should do a podcast. The other pushed along with other catfishermen/women to have the Calendar be a "sticky", meaning to stay posted up front on page 1 for easy access.
Another YellowCat fishermen used the PYC & YC days to target Yellows with trotlines. Then they went towards Rod-n-Reeling and still exceeded in the use of the calendar. One bass fisherman stated he also liked to catch Yellows, and the only reason he came over to the Catfish section, was to get the Catfish Calendar & any tips I might give on Yellows. One Rod-n-Reeler said if I ever came to Lake Conroe, they had a seat available for me. They used a spoon for catching Yellows & finally decided to only fish for Yellows on the YC or PYC days, as it yielded such better results than at random. In other words, they did not waste time on Yellows on other days not designated according to the calendar.
My prize YC & Calendar students, a team of father & son on Lake Limestone watched me for years, and finally put everything that I shared into practice. In the first 30 days of that decision, they caught 3 Yellows. One was over 30 pounds. But the 3rd was an impressive 62.4# bluish tinted Op. I happened to catch up with them & see it, as I arrived at Running Branch Marina, just before they were headed home with it. They were still shaking with the excitement & adrenalin of caching it. Of course, I got to take pictures of it & them before they headed out.
They also shared results over a few years, They noted that they seemed to catch the most Yellows towards the first of a YC or PYC run, and towards the end of a YC or PYC run, so I shared that as well, in the tips in my KEY. By others utilizing the calendar, it also helps to enhance its use by sharing their results as they recognize them.
And one night in 2008, "The Giant" hit their trotlines & was caught on it. James (the son) was the only one of us who has seen the head & its tail. He said there was nothing but head in his spotlight. By the time his dad (Jeff) had handed him the dip net, it went under & then the tail came up to the surface. James said it had to have been at least a foot as to its span. And then it was gone. I forget if they said it snapped the leader or what, but it easily got off.
I myself have caught the Giant many times, but it has gotten off. Once (the first time it hit my trotline, it was running the direction of it, taking me & my cousin's 14 foot MonArk with it, till it slid the leader to a knot & weight, then bent the hook out as it just kept going. Another times, I had a three-way swivel broken off & the leader & hook gone. So I quit using 3 way brass swivels. I stuck to 3/0 Brass barrel swivels. Then went to 4/0 & 6/0 brass & SS barrel swivels. One time. me & my Uncle started running a trotline set in another position, and feel the pull & we watched as I held it up, to see the mainline headed on its path, until stopped & slowly come back, of which it finally pulled off going in its "granny gear", never stopping. And a few other times. After the 2011 drought it had to move out of its normal domain & path. But my last encounter with The Giant was on May 5th, 2018 as it was Sunday morning & I was about to take off bait & pull the trotline. I started on the near end. As I started, I felt a tug which felt like I had perhaps a 10 to 15 pounder. As I went further, the tug now suggested this seemed to be about a 35 pounder. To my surprise, the further I went,. its tug indicated it was a good 60 pounder. Only to stop & look around where I was at, in that area. It "clicked"". I was right in the normal path of "The Giant". Oh [censored]!!! I'm in my new 12 foot AlumaCraft.
The Giant, estimated to be a Male coming in from somewhere of 100# to 150#s, had the advantage & possibility of turning the 12 foot over easily (as I knew its strength & "granny gear" run). And I was now right over top of it. I had the leader (of about 24" long) it was on. So I knew, to prevent that, I would have to get the upper hand by truly powerlifting this monster & not hesitating from hoisting it up into the air by surprising it & somehow tilting it to fall into the boat. This way the constant pressure would not allow it to roll or dip the boat on the side I was running the line. It was Do or Die, in a sort of manner. In that split second, as I shot my arms up bracing for its weight & resistance, it dove hard. To my surprise it snapped my size 36 leader line taking the hook with it. I had a mixed array of hooks on that trotline, but I think it was a Mustad SS short "J" style triple strength 9/0 stump hook. I prefer the 3 strand twist or diamond braid size 36. However, it snapped to reveal somehow, I had used a core type size 36. I would not have willingly used it, so I failed in not knowing I had some leaders with it.
Anyway, I now have THE trotline ready for The Giant, consisting of a minimum of size 72 to size 96 three strand twist nylon (be it leaders or mainline). If everything goes according to the plan, I have a few shots at once again catching it from November 8th thru 10th which consists of BFT/YC/YC & those two YC days also being PYC days. So unless rain prevents the trip, I'll be on a Giant run. If I don't catch it then, I hope to have another chance in 2025 between Spring & Summer after returning from Egypt. My research is not limited to just Catfish. One portion relates to the Great Pyramid & the Sphinx. Sadly though, if I don't catch The Giant by then, I may not have a further chance. Because my destiny veers about this point. China invades Russia in the Spring, which begins this 13 year (2025) portion of the Mayan cycle of major changes- 2012 thru 2038. You see, I study patterns. In a sense like Einstein's thought experiments, or as I call them- "scenarios", so that repeated adjustments eventually show how the dominoes will fall.
When you use set lines, you utilize the calendar the most, as basically you have the lines out for a straight 24 hours of a day, 7 days a week as to fishing, which is why for Rod-n-Reelers, I suggest you also use the Solunar tables to assist in targeting the best times to fish, since you may not be out there for the whole day & night. And as noted, they still hit paydirt with the calendar.
I hope this brief has helped.
I almost forgot. During Full Moons, it seems the YC & GG (Gator Gars) run (feed) a few hours later. The Yellows for sure hit best during the New Moon. YCs will come up more, the darker it is, compared to times that is more lit up.
So let me know if there are any further questions, and I'll try to answer it for you.
