There is new technology and tactics being developed that will help immensely. That being said EV fires are incredibly, incredibly rare.
Not trying to sway anyone towards EVs though. Just being objective.

I don't have a dog in the fight, but the NTSB claims a gas powered vehicle is 33 times more likely to catch fire than an EV. I don't doubt they are a harder fire to put out.

Its not the vehicle that is hard to put out in an EV its the battery that causes issue. Thermal runaway etc.

There are tanks now that some large city FDs are using to basically drop the vehicle into to put the fire out. These are mobile water tanks etc. Some additives being developed as well with will be internal to the battery and once heated will open causing them to smother the fire etc.

We just went throw an EV Fire class about a month ago here. Pretty interesting stuff.

Herman said it took firefighters nearly four hours and more than 30,000 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

“Normally when the fire department arrives, they have the vehicle fire in control in minutes, but this went on close to four hours,” said Herman.

At one point, crews had to call Tesla to ask how to put the fire out, Herman said.
