How and where do I look for crappie this winter? I got some live minnows and would like to use them soon before they die. I only bank fish, no boat. Where can I find them on the lakes? Or is it better to find them in creeks?

or go to the Weatherford Marina and try that crappie house, or go try the crappie house out at West Bay Marina on Eagle Mountain, they have a crappie barge they built two years ago

in the afternoon, if its warm and bright , look for shallow flats near the bank that are near a main creek or river channel.. fan cast on it with a slip cork rig and slowly work it back to u with short pauses. if you see a flat with birds sitting on it thats a big indicator that shad are around the area. big crappie will follow baitfish up onto these flats at times. you can go on navionics webapp for free online and study the lake so you can see where these flats are and if they are accessible by foot/. also small rivers and creeks that u have access to or spillways. try to find eddys at the spillway that fish get behind to get out of the current.
COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

I have tried to go out with the live minnows. I felt it didn't go well since I wasn't confident anyway. I know I am inexperienced in crappie fishing since I never targeted crappie like this before. But it was very windy today and there were a lot of chop on the water. I started by fishing under a bridge between the lake and cove. I tried downwind of the bridge where I thought the water would be calmer and better protected by the wind. There it was sunnier compared to under the bridge, which was shaded. So I was trying warmer water vs structure under the bridge. Then I tried out in the main lake by the dam, where the water is deeper. Felt like i was wasting my efforts wherever I went.
Should I have tried calmer conditions? Maybe I shouldn't have tried for crappie in the winter since they are out deep and accessible by boat? Maybe weong locations?
