What does this to a bass in a central texas lake? This poor girl was all beat up. The damage was fresh but she was clearly still feeding trying to survive...

Good call on turtle, This was lake bastrop so no gators. I have seen snappers take down ducks though, never thought of one snapping a tail but makes sense.

I know they'll grow back wear and tear from spawning to their tail, hopefully this will grow back. That is pretty extreme.

Most likely a logger head snapping turtle.
They do lots of damage to our bass. The birds do as well especially water turkeys .
I watched a logger head grab a 5 lb bass once from the bottom behind the gills and bite all the way through the bass killing the bass and leaving a hole the size of a skoal can.
Terrible to see this.
