Guess I’m buying a new boat and getting back after ‘em.

Looking at getting new rods. I’ve used Pro Anglers for years and don’t have any complaints about them but I know that cat rods have improved over the years.

I’m interested in these only-
TWC Whisker Whip
BCF Medium action
WS GFX MH

Does anyone have any experience with these? Would like to hear from you if so, before I buy 10 of them. I’ve fished with the WS and like them a lot, but really interested to hear something on the other two.

Thanks.

I have a few Whisker Seeker MH FMJ rods. Same rod, just a metal reel seat. Action is great, and they have plenty of backbone.

I have a bunch of the medium proanglers and love them for anchor fishing and spring time shallow fishing. Really good rods for water size fish and will still handle big fish without a problem.

For drifting with planer boards I have switched over to madkatz. Very nice and very well made with great actions. You should definitely check them out. I recommend them for sure.

I have 1 WS FMJ rod and the action is great but the handles are terrible. Not sure if they are still the same but the fake cork wrap on the handles that they used to use ends up tearing and coming off. I ended up having to wrap the grip in paracord. They wouldn’t warranty the handle so I never bought another, and won’t.

Never fished with the other 2 you asked about

G Love, I think the first question for me is, what kind of catfishing are you doing? That'll have a lot to do with which rod you want to go with. I can't help you with the TWC's. I've never used them and don't know anyone that has. The BCF's are good rods. I know someone that has them. Personally, I wouldn't go with anything less than a medium-heavy. I'm not sure the medium action is going to have enough backbone unless you're just doing some box-fishing. I'm a Mad-Katz guy mostly. A friend gave me a couple of Catfish Pro rods that I do like, although, they don't have metal real seats. I don't think they're going to stand stand the test of time. The one thing I do like about them is the action. They've got a pretty fast tip but the backbone starts about a foot down from the tip and they get strong at that point. The tip has enough give to see every little tap, but if a fish hits it, it loads up real quick and puts a good hook set on them. The Mad Katz are just phenomenal though. They are my preferred rod without a question.

Have to say madkatz too. I use to use proanglers and then switch to Berkleys catfish rods, but since switch to madkatz cause I just liked the way they looked and the glow in the dark option with a bkack light. They handle great and just got my wife her own set.

I mean it’ll mostly be north Texas lakes, west of the metroplex, Twok every now and then. Brazos river, mainly for flatheads, I do a lot of flathead fishing. I’m leaning toward 8-10 standard type rods like white ugly sticks and 4-6 heavier duty rods now. I’ve used the TWC EXT’s for flatheads and they’re awesome for that, I like a 3-way with a 3-4oz weight and a large sunfish or big slab of cut shad/drum, and those TWC’s handle it well. I just had in mind a hybrid type rod to handle all of it but that might not be practical. So I may do 4-6 heavier rods and I’ll check out the mad cat for that purpose. Gotta get this Excel bought first.

Gonna try out a buddy’s M action mad cats. He said they’re soft enough for box fish but handle 50+’s for him in timber. That pretty much fits the bill. Gonna try ‘em out. They aren’t cheap though. Lol

Another vote for the Whisker Seeker FMJ's from me.

Great rods, strong backbone and sensitive tips, plus a nice comfortable cork handles. I have four of them. They have a 40% off sale right now, so I couldn't resist it and purchased two more yesterday.

clap

So I did the math and the deals going on right now- I can get 10 WS FMJ's for 600 or I can get 10 white Madkats for 645. So the deal is a wash basically. Think I'm going to pull the trigger on the MK. Thanks for the replies.

Received the Madkat medium action "Bulldogs". Initial impression is they're possibly the best feeling catfish rod I've ever put my hands on, for my type of catfishing. Getting them roughly the same cost as Proanglers was pretty sweet too. banana

You’re going to love the rods I guarantee it. There is a reason Mad Katz is taking over and it’s not because of the colors. They sold 350k rods last year and 2nd place sold 56k. That is total domination of the industry in 3 short years. Awesome customer service, top notch rods, and they give back to anglers more than any other company in the industry. They have always donated rods and swag for my tournaments and any of my friends tournaments when I asked. Weekly big fish contest at Mad Katz Unlimited has won me 12 rods and $1500 in my pocket over the past year. Catch good fish, win rods, reels, and money, no other company is doing that! I love my Mad Katz like so many others and proud to on the team!💪

I went to ugly sticks for everything. You can get a ton of variations with them. Best rod out there for the price point.
