I attended a boat show at a dealership last week. Lots of different brands to see a well as one celebrity, that man was Rick Pierce. When I found out he was going to be there I brought something for him. I ran Basscat's for about twenty years and owned three during that time. At one point I had a license plate on my truck that said "BASSKAT". I had been meaning to mail it to him for years but never got around to it. I had never met the man before, so I introduced myself to him and gave him the plate. He was just as many have described him; friendly, gracious, and thankful for the gift. We talked a bit and said our goodbyes when I left. Today I received a Christmas card in the mail thanking me again for the plate and wishing me well in retirement which I had mentioned to him that I was doing this month. Like that title of this post says, character always show. Thanks Rick.

Good to hear you had a good experience with him.
I have read a lot of posts about owners who mirror your experience.

When a thread came up about a new boat they had I interjected something about Allison using the same type locks for at least the last 20 years that BassCat was calling new and he jumped all over me about it.

Pro Tip - If you’re talking about BCBassCat, just ply him with shots of fireball and he’ll mellow out.

He showed up in the crappie little town of Three Rivers TX to make an appearance, that shocked the hell out of me. Definitely not your normal man.

Never have had the privilege of meeting Rick face to face but have talked to him on the phone several times. I did meet Ron at a BassCat owners tournament at Fork several years. An older gentleman walked up to our table with his wife and asked us if we were here for the tournament and what kinda boat I had. He then introduced himself and his wife and asked if he could sit with us. All his wife wanted to know is was the pork chops better than the chicken fry.We ate and visited awhile he tried to pick up the tab but I insisted and he still gave a twenty $ tip. We walked out and he asked us to come over to his vehicle, he proceeded to load us up with all kinds of BCB paraphernalia. It was like an evening with your Grandparents.

the cheapest toilet paper there is; mostly found in public stalls... the paper was thin, his finger went in...

Rick Pierce is a great man! Here is what he wrote about Hudson:

"For you and the Barnett family this Christmas is a special one. You’ve had several “special” Christmas’s now and God has had his hands in Hudson’s life for pushing well into his first decade. When we see an image like this we all smile, thank God, and we feel it deep in our chest and mind. We have a special interest as the Barnett family has shared their struggle and they’ve shared Hudson with each of us for over 6 years since his birth.

There’s more to this we can all learn from and use to remember everything we’ve seen when we get that feeling. The little things that often reward us, there will be few of us face a life changing event and have such an impact. The research specialists, doctors and staff at “Children’s” see this daily and they are to be appreciated. They have had an impact in Hudson’s life, the Barnett family and their friends, as well as each one of us. He makes their days special and I’m sure for every Hudson their tears fall over one less fortunate.

What we all can learn from this on this 2023 Christmas season is more. We all gave that glow to someone at some point as children and now it’s ours to receive. Every economic level of child has this glow in every land, every culture and continent.

Hudson gave us the unselfish joy of a child. He knows little other than it’s joy and he has yet to understand the pleasure his joy brings to each of us.
To Hudson he is just being who he is and to each of us we have a much deeper appreciation that he can enjoy what is a simple toy. This goes much deeper than Hudson, it’s the sincere expression of a child.

How did the eyes of a newborn child give so much.
As the birth of a child touches our life.

Through Hudson, he gives us all that trust in our faith that God has this all managed.

Merry Christmas!

Rick" Rick Pierce Post

a few yrs. back I wanted some rod grommets for the 184 (holes in rod box) and all I could find was bcb so I called them.

parts guy allan (same name as me lol) and I talked for a couple of mins. while I explained what I was doing.

we got the order done and I asked how to pay, they shipped c.o.d. and while it was not all that much money wise it was the simple fact that a co. would still ship prior to payment being made.

have dealt with them a couple of other times and if I was buying a new boat it would be a cat.

I joined the BassCat family in 22; and was very surprised to receive a hand written card with a personalized message, congratulating me on the purchase and thanking me for choosing BCB...that is exceptional in todays marketplace...I applaud him.

I don’t believe you could only talk for a “couple of minutes.”

JK of course….
