Its not the job of the govt to protect you, the people need to be given the power back to protect themselves. It’s a romantic notion and I can’t say I disagree but police are saddled with way to many things nowadays to up and do away with them. Who would respond to domestics, traffic control, drug overdoses, drunk drivers, school threats, large fights, fires, mental health issues, shoplifting, burglary patrol, rapes, lost persons, victim services, child deaths, cold cases, and the list goes on and on. Oh, let’s also not forget cataloging and storing evidence, submitting reports, lab submissions, open records requests etc. We house 28,723 pieces of evidence here. You want to keep that at your house until it goes to trial?

Under 4oz of marijuana isn’t even a crime here. Also, misdemeanor evidence can be destroyed every 2 years. Think more long term. Every rape kit kept for infinity. All homicide evidence kept for infinity.
