Went to fish my usual winter spot 2 days in a roll. Only manged 1 20lbr. This time of the year I fish an area that holds alot of trophy fish, but does not have the same production in spring and summer, even in the shallows. I found a spot for summer fishing that we do catch 20s and 30s. Water temp on Lavon was 58 degrees, so next time I go out ima try that area until my spot gets alot cooler water Temps. Unfortunately don't see any good cold days or nights coming soon to cool waters more. I don't know if this was the problem but its the only thing I can think of. The water is just to warm for them to start to bunch up and get in the winter pattern. I could be way off.

Too warm?

Well warmer than I would wish for sure. I fished Lavon this past weekend. Fish were in the usual places at around 25 feet, nothing in the deeper water....yet, and the fish were scattered.

Five hours drifting with four baits and just two bites. One good take down and my hook got twisted and buried on my big ole fish head cut bait, so he let go and came off.

Skunked.

But, one of our regular posters was also fishing in the same area and snagged over 100 pounds of blues. But yes, he knows his lake and the fish, so he always makes it look easy.

A beautiful day on the lake at almost 70F so I aint complaining, but man I cant wait for the water temps to get below 50F and for the fish to congregate in the deep water.

The water temps on Granbury and benbrook are 52 to 54 and im finding most of the fish in the 20 to 25 foot range. Ive not been able to find a ton of big gizzard shad but seem to catch a carp every time I go looking for bait and it has gotten the most hits. Im waiting for the big fish to go deep too so that I can be fishing a mile from the house.

Use to drift right down the middle of Benbrook when the water is cooler, best hits were like in front of the rc plane runway. I kno there are alot of trees down there but that was the best spot.

Went back today, tried a few spots, even hit my summer spot. Had good bait, big gizzard shad. First spot, zero, second spot, zero, both marked what looked like good cats on side scan. Went to an area that was shallower but didn't mark anything that looked good, Went back to our usuall winter spot. Drifted and was about to go and had 2 takers about 1 min apart. A 25 and 27lbr. So maybe they are about to start to bunch up and bite pick up. Water temp was 51.8. Air temp was 41 on truck b4 we launched, seemed like it only got colder as day went on, still haven't warmed up, feel like I'm frozen.

RDZ, I think the fish are about to start stacking up. Get used to that frozen feeling! Winter bite is upon us. Gonna be some big fish caught in the next couple of months!
