Me and a buddy decided to tag team Texoma yesterday in different boats. He definitely kicked my rear end! The day started off so foggy that we had to creep to our first spot. Probably took about 30 minutes to go a couple of miles. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/12/full-111082-206681-120323_texoma5.jpg) We started off fishing with frozen drum and skipjack herring. Around noon, I located shad in 2 feet of water in the back of a shallow cove, although, it didn't do any good. All the fish came on the drum and skipjack. My first fish was somewhere in the neighborhood of 45 pounds. I couldn't locate my scale so, I'm not really sure. It could've been a little more or a little less. He bit in 14 feet of water drifting out of the cove that I caught the shad. That was my first bite and it wasn't until around 11 am. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/12/full-111082-206683-120323_texoma3.jpg) My buddy did quite a bit better than I did. I think he ended up with 7 fish and there were only two that were under 25 pounds. All in all, it was e really good day. The deepest we caught fish was around 45 feet and the water temp was around 55 degrees. ![[Linked Image]](https://texasfishingforum.com/forums/pics/userpics/2023/12/full-111082-206687-120323_texoma2.jpeg)

Looks like a great day on the lake! Funny how those big cats get real fussy over baits. Someone told me the other day they couldn't get bit on shad, but the cat's were chowing down on cut carp like crazy. The good thing about fog is it only really happens in the fall/winter, so those crazy fast bass boats will all be put away for football season, so no chance of getting run down!

Was your buddy using the same bait? Dan, yes, he was. I split my bait with him at the boat ramp. His bag had a couple of bluegill and I think one of his fish came on that as well. The overall choice bait was the skipjack, which you can get from different places on the internet but it's pretty expensive. I bought a cooler full when we were in Alabama earlier this year.

The good thing about fog is it only really happens in the fall/winter, so those crazy fast bass boats will all be put away for football season, so no chance of getting run down! Bob, that is, of course, unless I'm out there, LOL! The good thing about my bass boat is, I'm not an idiot! (well, that's debatable) Now, I think I know the guy that told you about the carp and I quite agree with him. I think carp is one of my all time favorite baits because it stays on the hook so well. They are pretty easy to catch at certain times of the year. The only problem is getting those darn scales off! It's a pain and quite messy. Also, you gotta be careful, those scales are sharp as a knife! Oh, and one more thing....sitting in the fog that morning, I could hear boats wizzing along at speed and it made me tremendously nervous. I'm assuming that what I was hearing were guide boats. I know those guys know the lake like the back of their hands, but nobody can avoid a collision in fog that heavy if your under way on plane. I can only hope that whoever it was, they weren't in the fog bank (although, we never came out of it from Highport Marina all the way to McLaughlin Creek). It's kinda like driving a car in fog. Everyone knows how dangerous it is but there's always idiots that drive way too fast in it. You hear about those multiple car pile-ups all the time. It's just the people. They're the real problem. That old saying will always hold true....you can't fix stupid!

Awesome. My brother bank fishes the north end a lot for cats. Fishing was good around the same time you posted this, but he said this weekend has sucked!

I haven't spent much time on the north end but I'm sure there are some good spots up there. I know quite a few bank fisherman that love that lake. There's a lot of good bank fishing spots on the Red River arm, especially on the OK side. I had a friend fish there yesterday and did pretty good. He wasn't bank fishing but the last time I talked to him he had 8 fish on the day with a 60 pounder for the best. He said he had a tough time taking pics because he was by himself but I'm gonna see if he has any worth posting.

North end where the Washita opens up to the lake near the oil dikes is prime 👌
