Hey TFFer's I am looking for some help on where to look for crappie over the next few months of fishing on this lake. I don't need anybody's honey hole but just an idea of what kind of structure and depths to look for. I've caught a "few" crappie from the bridge pilings out here so far, but would really like to find more than a handful of fish. I see ton's of standing timber right off the channels all through this lake, are these good spots to look for them. Is there a certain depth they relate too? Also I know there are docks in 40 feet of water, and 5 feet of water on this lake. Do they like docks in the sweet spot of 12-15 FOW, anyways just some idea of where to look for these fish. Trying to take a couple kids fishing for them this upcoming weekend, so thanks in advance for any and all help!!

The old saying " find the bait, find the fish " is a good starting point. What kind of electronics are on your boat ? Having a good chart via said electronics is a game changer. Google Navionics.com and pull down respective lake in order to eliminate a lot of unproductive water/depths. Creeks are also good areas as the water temps are warmer. Big bends in the creek will hold fish as they are deeper and prolly hold timber or washed in brush. Crappie will hold , cork and jig or live bait can be effective . Docks in10 -20 feet of water will hold crappie all winter.

I'm sure some of the Crappie Guru's will chime in and underscore and add to this thread.

Thanks GBorg, I have a Helix 9 graph with side scan, and down scan. I'm still very new with the side scan stuff and its still tough for me to see what I'm seeing lol. I do have a lake maps chip in my Helix so I have a clear view of any body of water I'm on. I didn't even think about creeks this time of year, as I have always heard that crappie tend to group up on deep structure during the colder weather months. Is Rucker creek a good place to look, or possibly the area behind Stumpy's? To anyone else who might chime in I sure appreciate the help.

Just a follow up to my fishing adventure this weekend. Took 2 boys both 11 years old with me on Sunday morning. We put in at the city park near downtown, and proceeded to check several spots in the middle lake area. Looked at the bridge's/columns right on the river channel with out much luck, then headed to the Rucker Creek area. I found a spot loaded with fish in the creek channel right by the little marina there, but couldn't get any to bite. Pushed further back into Rucker Creek, but couldn't find anything on the graph. Then we headed to the 377 bridges as we have had pretty consistent luck there. We marked a few fish in 30-35 FOW without a bite. We checked out the marina adjacent to the 377 bridges, but the graph was quiet there also. It was another unfortunately frustrating morning, without a single fish in the boat. Mainly fished with crappie minnows on a flouro leader setup. Don't know if it was just the day, or if I'm doing something wrong. Anyways thanks for the help, and tight lines to all of us TFFer's!!

Christopher1982 Lake Grandbury is more of a river system so it`s complexion will change from time to time when the Brazos decides to roll. When it`s not I would concentrate my efforts on Boat Docks, Creek mouths, channel swings, Ledges & deep Bends where the Brazos has stacked up debri & laydowns.Don`t overlook the bridge pillings with debri stacked up also. You obviously know how to find them so If you find Fish that won`t commit to minnows you might want to try small jigs tipped w/minnows or a scented jig . Sometimes it`s the presentation or the profile itself that triggers the bite. It`s fishing & sometimes you have to think outside the box coolio

I'm planning to head out again Sunday morning, I am going to check north of downtown looking for crappies and sandies. I will send a full report next week, and let you all know how I did.
