It's true. If you sucked before FFS, you'll still suck with it. You'll just have spent more money to suck.

More times than not, I would say this rings true.

I have personally seen several people though that have really dialed in this FFS that have completely changed their game. The old school way of fishing on some of the lakes I fish that used to yield competitive 20-25 lb bags just flat out won't compete with these guys using FFS that are consistently catching 40 lb bags now.

I'm not complaining at all, I just have to work on getting better with it. But its a fact. I'd much prefer to actually fish than spend my day "hunting" for fish with FFS, but its a method you better learn if you want to compete with some of these guys.

I used to compete with them and felt confidant regarding my chances, now they've left me and most others in their dust. My best days on one lake in particular were high 20's - 30 lb bags. These guys now won't even talk about a 30# sack anymore. They are literally catching 35#s and better every trip, not just when the fishing is good.

On one hand, I wish FFS was never invented. On the other I don't support banning it either. The tricky part about banning technology is where do you draw the line? I think the better approach is just to work on getting better with the tools that are available.

The thing I guess that’s disappointing to me, it it doesn’t just make the “old guys” less competitive. It also makes the young guy that can’t afford it less competitive.

Boat prices are already through the roof.

I don’t think it’s a bad look for the sport to have an outlet where things are limited, so that’s those who don’t want or can’t get FFS can still have an even playing field.

You are suggesting “YouTubers “ can’t catch fish without livescope?

We're going to need a bigger boat.

Fortunately for me I have no desire (even if I had the talent) to ever be a "pro" fisherman or a guide. I am perfectly happy catching what I catch. I do have FFS but have really only had it for a couple of trips. I don't plan on changing the way I fish to accommodate for it very much. I hadn't seen the jump in skill by people using it out my way yet. The ones that were winning before it are still winning after it. Fishing will never outprice the angler, tournament fishing (or being competitive in tournament fishing) might. Fisherman are continuously driving the prices up due to their ego's telling them they "need to have" the latest and greatest thing, and then paying absurd prices to purchase them. I am afraid at 35 the tournament scene is passing me by; I can't imagine how the older guys are feeling. At 19 and 20 years old I was barely able to afford McDonalds, much less an $80,000 boat with $18,000 in electronics. I am really not sure how these younger kids are able to afford all these things, but clearly I was doing it all wrong at that age.

Man, thats a tough deal for these guys, when you spend thousands of $$ to win $125 at your bass club tournament and they start banning it.

Not that they can’t, but they won’t.

The great thing is you can go fishing every day without it- no one is stopping you. I’d hate to look at fishing as just a competitive event.

That's exactly what I do 5-6 days a week... And I'll even fish a tourney every now and then... Don't have it, don't plan to get it... Dan thumb
